Mizzou AD--No More G5 Road Games
Tod Palmer ‏@todpalmer · 18m
Alden: Future road games for football would be Power 5 teams, not Toledo, UCF or Arkansas State.

FBSchedules.com ‏@FBSchedules · 7m
RT @Dave_Matter: Alden: Mizzou will eventually phase out of playing noncon road games at non-power 5 schools.

Soooo in theory he would be willing to play in front of 30k fans at Duke but not 50k at ECU.

Seems reasonable.

I don't get how the P5 gets away with this rational. Refusing to play at any FBS school's stadiums is paramount to cheatingin my book. If you don't fight fair you shouldn't be allowed to fight at all.

Yep. Playing ECU is tougher. Plus we have gotten to the point where any P5 loss to any G5 school is considered a "bad loss" whereas a loss to any P5 is not considered a "bad loss".

This is the kind of talk that is going to bring down the sport. I truly believe that they've already hit their zenith and it is only a matter of time before the whole system comes crashing down.

Yep. Even if UC were in the P5 I would not care for the way the game has shaped up the past few years. It is starting to remind me of games kids play in middle school where you can't talk to/sit next to certain other kids because they are not in the "cool crowd". It is beyond juvenile and will only turn people away from the game.

I'm trying to understand the rationale here. If it's a SOS thing and the implication is that P5 automatically means stronger, why play non-P5 at home either?

Good luck with scheduling a home slate anybody is interested to see. I guess when you're playing EMU and two FCS every year we'll take a look at your season ticket sales and TV exposure.

College football money will run its course just like any other speculative bubble. I think you're right about the zenith--attendance is already declining, old-time rivalries are no more, and the public will ontinue to be turned off by this professionalization of college sports.

Remember how housing prices will always go up?

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the entire "G5" declared in one voice that they would only do home-and-homes from now on.

Doesn't happen often at the big attendance schools. In the last 25 years, Michigan has played at UConn once and Hawaii once. Ohio State hasn't played any G5 road games in at least 25 years. In the last 20 years, Bama has gone to Hawaii twice. That's it.

They would never allow that to happen to those schools...easy wins in the eyes of the 'big boys'

Ya and a ton of G5's would probably go FCS/D3 if they lost the pay games.

The P5's do this because they can, end of story. It's a multi billion dollar business and isn;t going anywhere. It's pure capitalism, they have the revenue thus the power.

First, take the timing into account... Missouri plays this week IN Toledo. So, these comments are strategically placed, for their fan-base.

Second, I don't have a problem with these comments. Sure, it means that Missouri will not be making an appearance at Nippert, but that wasn't going to happen anyway.

Third, have you people NOT been paying attention? Major programs have been angling for 7-8 HOME games a year. That's what Mizzou's AD is after.

Finally, the idea of "G5" teams "speaking as one" is ridiculous. Hell, when the 8 football members of the Big East declared "as one" that they would all boycott Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Miami in retribution for their leaving, that lasted...one season??? The best you could get is "my school" agreeing not to do "one-and-done," but in the current environment do you really think some cash-starved "g5" program from the SBC or CUSA won't jump at the chance to play Mizzou at home for a $2MM payout?

The P5 are getting their tv contracts. ESPN wants this type of scheduling to happen. They essentially want 60-64 or so teams to spend 99% of their time and effort to cover.

They will get their money now and take their chances on if the public/viewers will accept it.

By coincidence, Memphis already has a home & home scheduled with Mizzou in the near future. Last time we played in Columbia we won, by the way.
