When you're wearing it on your arm how personal can it be? Do you have a tattoo that says "retard?"

Just because a high school girl is wearing a rainbow doesn't mean she is gay FYI.

So what's wrong with asking? Or should the girl be ashamed of being gay?

Or you just don't ask that question at all...

Why? I thought there was nothing wrong with it, that it's the new normal. If the girl was embarrassed when asked if she was gay by my son who she had never met before, then more than likely she learned at home (just like you accused my kid) that being gay was bad. If she was raised to think being gay was good then she would have beamed with pride. Blame her parents, not me.

So he should just assume she is, right? But you didn't answer the question, why should the girl be ashamed of being asked if she was gay unless someone - not my son - taught her that being gay was bad? Would it be wrong to ask a person in a San Fran gay pride parade if they're gay?

You libs are a bunch of idiots. Obama talks about gays. Pelosi talks about gays. Reid talks about gays. ESPN talks about gays. So where are these gays unless someone asks?

Sums up nicely why our public education system has been taking a nose dive for decades..

I could type slower but they would still show up on your screen at the same speed. Your user name and location says you're from California. Are you? Why is that not offensive but asking a girl with a rainbow tattoo on her arm if she's gay different? You're putting out to the world a thought about yourself, so what's wrong with verifying?

Then don't answer. If she's embarrassed it's because of something she learned long before she encountered my kid. If the world can know Michael Sam is gay then why not her, after all, there's nothing wrong with it, right? Remember, he didn't pull the question out of the blue, it was in response to her wearing a gay symbol.

ohhhh good lord. He's a 16 year old kid. My gawd. This shouldn't have even warranted a 5 minute detention. We don't call these things problems in my neck of the woods. I have kids coming to my school who are homeless. Alcoholic fathers. Neglected kids. Over 65% of the kids in my school are on free and reduced lunches. This wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow. You need to separate the wheat from the chaff. The shut that matters. This isn't a problem boys and girls.

Like I said the suspension is a bit much, it's still a question that doesn't need to be asked.

Then tell all those celebs and athletes to keep it to themselves. Oh wait they can't. They want us to know every facet of their sexuality. Your attempt at "tolerance" is quite comical.

(09-02-2014 10:30 PM)smn1256 Wrote:  Mach, thanks for the advice but I kind of already know what you were telling me. I'm going to the school tomorrow which is my kid's final day of suspension, so I'm not expecting to gain anything here. The odd ball thing here is my wife just had an IEP last week where she gave the school psychologist reports showing my kid has a neurological problem where, on one hand, he has an extremely high IQ (127), but on the other he's 3 years lagging in maturity (he's 16 but has the maturity of a 13 year old) and he can't control his impulses, which is usually his mouth. But in this case he can't understand why he's being punished for asking a question about being gay when the person is wearing something that symbolizes being gay. If I can calm down a bit, I'm going to try to lay a guilt trip on the school and tell them that, by punishing my kid for something he just can't understand, they've set back the progress he's been making.

Mach, I have a bad taste in my mouth for schools. My kid was suspended once for telling 2 girls who were picking on him that he wished the Grimm Reaper would visit them in their dreams. He was 6 when he said that. When he was 9, and remember, at the time he had the maturity level of a 6 year old, the school 5150'd him - they had him arrested - because he told a room full of kids that they'd regret laughing at him after the teacher embarrassed him in front of all of them. My wife and I took that to the school board and raised hell. We got a lawyer and the district actually changed their rules on 5150's.

Most principals I've dealt with are on power trips, school boards, or at least the one I dealt with, was a bit more reasonable.

TBH, kids take attitudes that often reflect their parents attitudes. You never really could be classified as someone who is "politically correct" in your attitudes towards gays and the same could be said for how you refer to them on this forum.

That is politely my way of telling you that the problem isn't the school, the problem is you.

No. What I write on this board is not what I share with my kid. My kid didn't even know there were blacks, Hispanics, or Asians until he heard it in school. Until then, they were just people like him. He was taught they were different by California liberal teachers.

Again, kids take in a lot more than what one would expect. It doesn't take much to figure out what a parents general attitude on a major topic is if you live with them.

Yea, okay. How many kids do you have, or have had, genius?

Why don't you STFU until you've actually done something that lends some credence to the bullschit you spew? Like, I dunno, move out of mommy and daddys basement?

What the kid asked was an innocent question as much as are you a Lakers fan, you've got a sticker on you bag, or whatever. How about "do you have history next class? It's on your schedule I can read"?

Suspension over this? I'd sue the admins ASAP. No effing way that's going on my kids record for this garbage. Bunch of PC freaks.
