Cuse vs UConn smack
Looking forward to this. SU recruits Florida hard so it's a win-win for both.

Though I wonder how UCONN fans are feeling about this...

Better play better than Syracuse did against Villanova over the weekend. Nova should have won that game.

03-banghead they better. Lucky for SU we have a history of ----ing the bed in our first couple of games only to come out strong 3/4 of the way into the season.

We are fine with it. We miss playing Syracuse in basketball. In football, however, we would rather have Rutgers if we are playing an old Big East team from our region or Louisville (or perhaps West Virginia) if we are playing an old Big East foe from out of our region.

I definitely agree that UConn fans consider Rutgers much more of a football rival.

For some reason, a football rivalry never developed with Syracuse. Don't know why. The Rutgers games were almost always very contested. From the beginning.

UConn and Syracuse have had drab games over the last 1 years. Off the top of my head, I think UConn is 6-3 against Syracuse. And many of those wins were total blowouts. The weird thing is that I believe the 3 Syracuse wins were also blowouts.

Whereas the Rutgers games always seem to go down to the very last play.

I think the reason a rivalry never developed is because SU never needed one. We are over saturated with rivals as things stand now and trying to force one with UCONN was just never going to work out. You a need mutual interest to get one to work, and if RU never really developed into a true rivalry despite us playing them practically every year for the last 3 decades, UCONN had no chance.

UCONN & RU have geography, culture, and a natural lacking of true rivals to make a rivalry work prior to 2014. But now their goal is building on their UMD & PSU rivalries.

How many G5 schools have a heisman, national championship, and anywhere close to the amount of wins & NFL HoFs as us????

Oh that's right ==> NONE

I have to laugh at this, seeing USF and UConn were in the same conference as Syracuse for so long, and usually defeated Cuse to boot. What, suddenly now they are this all powerful team now that they have a new patch on their jersey? Teams like Syracuse, Pitt, UConn, Rutgers, USF, UCF...you can all throw them in a hat and pull one out and they are all the same.

USF was 6-2 against Syracuse in the Big East, I believe.

This is a good game for both schools, however.

SU still beats them in every category, plus they technically are not a G5 school, and if you wanna get really technical the AAC considers them a power school.

And seriously, anyone with a hint of football knowledge knows they are the exception and not reflective of 95% of G5 schools.

^THIS!

Also, apart from Rutgers in the old Big East, UConn fans really enjoyed (and now still enjoy) playing USF. There were a lot of games between UConn and USF with a lot of amazing plays and unexpected outcomes.

We also enjoyed playing WVU for the challenge (UConn lost all except for one) and playing Louisville due to their bowl success (we still almost split all wins evenly with them). Cincy was (and still is) less enjoyable as we have historically not matched up well with them.

As for Cuse and Pitt, both teams weren't that much of a football rival since they weren't that much of a challenge. We owned Cuse 6-3 and Pitt was unpredictable (either terrible or mid-pack in the conference, and they always underperformed in their bowl games).

LOL. Don't get all defensive. Syracuse has a lot of great history but the reality is that they haven't done much since the McNabb years. Most of the schools you call G5 haven't been around for as long as Cuse. As for BYU last I check everyone has them as not part of the Greedy 5
You can thank Cuse's past history for joining the Greedy 5 because in the recent years they haven't done much yo earn it. But I can also name other Greedy 5 hangers on. It is what it is.

I think what it comes down is UCONN fans inability to comprehend that football existed before the year 2000 and that market/fanbase matters as well.

how many G5 schools have beaten 3 P5 programs in their bowl games in the past four years. I'm not getting defensive, your argument is just a joke. Again, historic rivalries & fanbase size DOES MATTER. for some reason only G5 fans seem to omit this obvious detail.

Just an FYI for all technical purposes, BYU is not in the G5 or the P5 due to their independent status.

Technicality. You know full well BYU is not part of the Greedy 5 with that said off the top of my head Boise has beaten 3 P5 in past 5 years. Lot of that was due to bowl match ups Cuse being in a big East got more of those match ups than the others.

I'm not debating at Cuse has a rich history but the reality is that they haven't been all that recently. Hell is one of the few BE schools USF dominated on the field

John - your a known UConn hater/Syracuse apologist so I am not surprised you refuse to accept that UConn only has X amount of years playing Syracuse at an FBS level to to compare and contrast against.

I congratulate Syracuse on playing football at a higher level earlier on that Syracuse. I congratulate them on their successes from years ago as well. Unfortunately that headstart did not translate into better performance, which begs the question why should Syracuse be so respected by Uconn fans, while all we have witnessed first hand is mediocre-terrible teams.

well they have 3 bowl wins over P5 teams in the past four years. I'd say their athletic program isn't anywhere near as bad as you claim it is.
