Another American journalist beheaded
I feel comforted in knowing that the President called ISIS the JV team. Hate to see how the varsity squad behaves.

I felt even more comforted on Sunday when he went before the press and said he had no plan for dealing with ISIS. He's a born leader.

Heard this morning that a retired general said our fearless leader has had daily briefings on ISIS for over a year. I guess a year isn't enough time to formulate a plan to deal with them 03-weeping

President Dunn would rank higher IF I was really trying to be funny.

There is no easy answer here and anyone who pretends there is forgets the not very recent past. You can kill an extremist group but there is a power vacuum in a region that has no democratic tradition that gets filled by something undesirable.

Stop pretending there is a) a solution and b) you wouldn't oppose anything this president came up with. You would probably without a tinge of irony be up in arms if he decided to invade Iraq. The amount of partisan hackery displayed now over international news continues to astonish. I'm just waiting for the dittoheads to pine for ISIS leadership the way they do for Putin.

RE: Another American journalist beheaded
The British priminister showed leadership today. He gave authority to revoke the passports of dubious characters traveling to sectors of the Middle East, as well as revoke visas of questionable characters who might be associated with ISIS living in Britain.

When the first journalist was beheaded Cameron left vacation and retuned to London to reassure Brits that he and parliament were working on solutions to keep Brits safe. Obama returned to the WH and condemned the beheading. 50 minutes after the speech he was playing golf with Alonzo Morning. Even the Obama friendly NY Times said he seemed totally detached and uninterested, let alone displaying leadership.

The guy has checked out. I'd be highly surprised if something doesn't happen on 9-11 of this month. These ISIS clowns have already made it clear they are coming. Currently they estimate at least 300 US citizens have joined ISIS in Iraq. Unlike Cameron we haven't changed our policy on revoking the passports of US citizens returning from dubious sectors of the Middle East. Even if we stop potential ISIS sympathisers flying in, our southern border is an open gate for ISIS to enter the country.

Yes, he must condemn immediately, like Dumbya did Al Zawai when they beheaded an American and it took us forever to catch the perps after invading Iraq.

Please. You sound like YOU are addicted to Oxycontin.

So our special forces strike that missed is inaction? Is that in play for your narrative?

We sent special forces in an attempt to rescue people who made a conscious decision to work there knowing the risks. Sad, terrible, but all real.

Unfortunately for Brits, they don't have a constitution worth wiping their a55es with. "Dubious characters." Yeah, like that wouldn't be abused here.

The Rear Admiral they interviewed yesterday said yeah we can shove ISIL back into the sea no problem. But a political reality must be in place first. The region and the rest of the world need to stand up and take ownership. Not just USA blood and treasure all the time.

ISIL or Assad? Who do we want to win? In a funny sort of way, I'd let ISIL beat Assad, and then we go in and beat ISIL. That way you get rid of both of them.

Complain about our southern border while the prez golfs? Dude, the House has been on break for 5 weeks. They have an immigration bill on the floor that will pass for over a year, Boehner will not allow a vote on it.

And who needs to step forward, put together, and lead a coelition? Luxenbourg?

One country and one president is in a position to lead. I'll bet the rest of the world really wanted to get behind our leader on Sunday when in an unscripted moment he said, "At this time we no strategy to stop ISIS."

Not exactly FDR, and " We have nothing to fear but fear itself."

We're on board a rudderless ship and the Captain is AWOL.

You sound like a man who gets his news off the yahoo header.

The forces on the ground have done nothing but intel for air strikes. Yesterday's air strike consisted if bombing a truck. Man, that'll teach them.

We don't need to nation build and spend 12 years in Iraq. Americans won't support that, but they'll support taking this bunch out quickly and efficiently. Much like with Desert Storm this could be done quickly, and we could get out.

I don't see an isolationist, bury your head in the sand strategy stopping these clowns from slaughtering Christians in the Middle East or keeping them from doing something tragic on our soil.

The typical response is, "if make them mad it will get worse." So how has becoming the worlds apologists worked out? Ukrain, Egypt, Libiya sp, Hamas, etc.

RE: Another American journalist beheaded
The President comes from the same realist tradition as Condi Rice and Henry Kissinger. Get the most foreign policy gain for the least cost. We spend billions to wipe out ISIS the way we did Saddam and billions more in infrastructure and support and get what? Lets see if we can't empower others in Iraq and in the region offering some help where possible. Contrast this with the Neo-con policy of trying to shape the world by making faulty assumptions that your actions will have natural consequences i.e. people want freedom so overthrow a dictator, disband the army and let people vote and you'll get a stable parliamentary democracy.

I'm afraid you wouldn't recognize or follow this President's lead regardless of the policy. You're just frustrated that he hasn't articulated a less nuanced policy you and the reactionary right can oppose as a matter of course. If you are interested this is a pretty good piece that looks at what we are actually doing now instead of the political game of "failure of leadership" (which is a made up term used to blame BHO for all persistent global problems)

Liam, when Saddam invaded Yemen we threw him out and wrecked his army in 3 days. We don't have to, nor can we nation buil in these tribal regions, we've learned that lesso in Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, and Libya.

There are and always have been bad actors in the world. We can destroy them while they're small, or we can wait until they're large and established, have nukes from Iran and Pakistan and then deal with it on a global stage, ie WW3.

In 1935 the world laughed at Hitler.......he was JV, by 1939, not so much.
