Cajuns receving votes in AP and USA Today Coaches polls

Week 1 Polls as of 9/2/14

UL received votes in both the AP and The USA Today Coaches poll in the week 1 poll as of 9/2/14. Although they only received 1 point in the AP poll, it's a start. In the Coaches poll the Cajuns received 13 points to be ranked 37th

UL just needs to keep winning and climbing up the polls. If the Cajuns get by La Tech this week, then the Ole Miss game will be huge. I hate to look too far ahead, but I will. Wins on the road against Ole Miss and Boise State should put the Cajuns in the Top 25 if we can get by La Tech first.

One positive thing about the Southern game is that we didn't have any injuries. Not even a minor injury as far as I know.

It would be awesome for both the Cajuns and the SBC to have a team in the Top 25. It will be a tough task to get there.

These are still preseason polls. Should change today now that Miami and Louisville played last night.

If (BIG IF) we manage to win the next 2 games, the cajuns will be the first ranked SBC team. That Ole Miss game will be a HUGE game.

The Ole Miss game will be huge.

I am just not optimistic about it.

I'm not putting it down as a win either, but I don't think it'll be a blowout either. If we manage to get Bo Wallace to turn the ball over a few times (which he has a tendency to do), that game can break our way and after all the close losses to SEC teams, it's time for one to break our way.

ULL may have the inside track for being the first to be ranked, but at this point it could be any of us. ULM has Idaho(winnable) and LSU in the next two weeks, South has Kent St(winnable) and Miss St, stAte has Tennessee and Miami(and I'm not talking about the one in Ohio), even GaSt has NMSU(winnable), Air Force and then #20 Washington over the next 3 weeks.

So it just comes down to who takes care of business over the next 2 weeks. If any of those teams come out undefeated, that will be our first ranked team. Now if two or more teams were to do it, that would be excellent.

Continuing to look at the future schedule, if Texas St gets past Navy, watch out. They could be our first bracket buster, their schedule is set up very nice this year.

After seeing teams not get ranked before after some upsets, I'm not sure. Remember, FIU started off like 4, or 5-0 the other season with an upset of a bcs team and a good UCF squad and didn't get ranked. I think there's no way the cajuns don't get ranked if we start 3-0 and I think it's a possibility for us to win the game. Maybe stAte could pull it off, but coming from no where in the polls to ranked can be difficult and take time, where as the cajuns are already halfway there.

Possibly, I continually said I thought TSU would be better this year than prognostications had them. Dynamic QB, good defense, solid run game, that is the makings of a scary good team.

You are the top G5 team in the receiving other votes in the coaches poll. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/pol...qmxrzplqnn

Thanks for pointing that out. The Cajuns are actually 37th in the Coaches poll released 9/2/14. I corrected it in the original post. Like you said the Cajuns went from 12 to 13 votes, which moved them from 40th to 37th. Thank you slycat..

To beat Ole Miss I think we'll need an excellent offensive showing and a pick 6 by the defense and one td on a punt return by Elijah 'The Prophet' McGuire.

Am I asking too much?

RE: Cajuns receving votes in AP and USA Today Coaches polls
An Ole Miss win will be very dependent on getting a few lucky breaks. Plus 2 in turnover with 14 points off of those will give us a win. They've got to steal 14 points somehow, kickoff returns, scoop and score, pick-6, etc. A big plus on our side is that Freeze may be the dumbest coach in the SEC. He is a horrible game manager and makes poor decisions. Capitalizing on his screw ups will be a big positive.

Keys to victory-
Turnovers; need at least 2
Resiliency; Ole Miss may get a quick start and the Cajuns will have to stick around mentally
Grind; The Cajuns have the metal to stand in there and mix it up. They will need to impose themselves physically.
Rushing offense; If the Cajuns can put 150 or more rushing yards on the board they have a great shot of being on top. Control
Clock; The best way to beat Ole Miss is to control the pace of the game and take the mental edge.

I'd love to see a Cajuns win, and I know they are good enough to do it. However, my guess is that Ole Miss hits them with shock and awe to start off, going up 21 or so at some point. Hud fails to adjust defensively and take advantage of his matching skill, exactly how they lost against Arkansas last year and KSU. I think the final will be 41-28.

I went to Grad School at Ole Miss during the Eli Manning days. I had season tickets and it's a hard place for an opposing team to play with their fans constantly doing their Hotty Toddy cheer. For a town, Oxford, to have a population of 20,000 and they get over 60,000 fans at the games, they get into their football.

So I would say another key is to not let their crowd get into the game, by having turnovers, giving up big plays, allowing sacks, etc. Still have to take care of La Tech first before the Ole Miss game will mean anything..

Two things.

1: Memphis has won 4 games or less (usually less) the past 5 seasons. They beat Austin Peay and all of a sudden somebody wants to rank them?

2: Somebody ranked North Dakota State. Seriously? Just because they beat Iowa St, who won all of 3 games last year and is a Big 12 cellar dweller?

The world is full of idiots, I shouldn't be surprised.

I'm not worried about being ranked. I just want to demolish La Tech by 3 or more TDs. In order for us to do that we have to execute like we did against Texas St last year. If we execute our game plan on both sides of the ball we will be 3-1 after the first four and that is the best I can hope for.

Isn't North Dakota State in the FCS?. I think they are #1 in the FCS poll. It just shows you how much some sportswriters know, lol. That is so ridiculous.
