I imagine most are missing Petrino at this point... I actually think most of the fan base wanted to retain BP, but the AD had some idealistic reputation to uphold. But I guess it landed him the lead spot in the playoff committee.

RE: How long before Arkansas fires Bert Bielema
I thought that was a stupid and peculiar hire in the first place.

Arkansas' knee jerk reaction to fire Petrino was straight from the shadows of Frank Broyles. They could have suspended him from a few games and fined him, but kept him as their coach. The man can coach and it wasn't beyond any other schools to hire him.

I don't know how they will do it, but I still predict Gus Malzahn will wind up back home at Arkansas, but they have some big sucking up to do to him after what Nutt did to the players he brought in with Malzahn.

RE: How long before Arkansas fires Bert Bielema
after Long found out he lied about being alone on the bike, plus giving his mistress a job AND $20,000, he had no other choice......he might have been able to overlook the affair if it was just that

I think Bielema is a good coach - just for the Big 10 style and not in the SEC. Arkansas will never be able to score enough to keep up with the top half of the league - Bielema is a ground and pound, O and D-line guy. That's fine if you have Alabama talent and depth, but Arkansas does not and never will have.

He has to recruit to fit his style.
Arkansas doesn't have the players he needs to run his system yet. I think next year would be the year to start expecting results (ie bowl game)

They did sign one of the best QBs in the nation for next year, from right there in Arkansas.

Arkansas will be fine, so will our fat @#%! coach for at least two more years and then it should be a mute point and then the 10 year rule kicks in.

Uh...Arky should have let Petrino go...but the worst in all of that was Louise, which should NEVER have hired him.

They could have stood for something, and CHOSE to stand for nothing...and while I get the predictable they will win more games blah blah...they were doing that with character with Strong, and should have had the fortitude to find another, instead of picking back up that human crap stain.

If schools start eliminating coaches that cheat on their wives and lie about it the coaching ranks will be looking pretty thin...

If only his resume of crap was just limited to those two things...but...it is much fuller than that.

Signed,
Among many others,
Atlanta after 13 games
Auburn associates

Well, they did and you see what they got. A disaster with great talent and John L Smith and this guy from Wisconsin is a freakin joke. That Big 10 style is never going to work in the $EC West.

We are talking about the University of Arkansas, not Oklahoma Baptist.

And misusing state funds (i.e. giving your mistress a job).

Oh, and not to mention the potential lawsuits you open yourself up for due to, uh, questionable hiring practices.

Wasn't the cheating. It was this.

"Petrino’s fatal error was hiring Dorrell– for a direct report job that attracted over 158 other applicants."

Check out the very last line in the article, if you have time. Author underestimated the Louisville factor. lol

If Arkansas had hired Malzhan when Nutt left, where would they be now? Instead they gave him a token interview but he wasn't considered a serious candidate back then. Oh, well....

Arkansas needed a clean break from all sides of that mess. It's nice to know you Tiger fans care so much about our program. Thanks for the concern.

That's why they should have suspended him/fined him instead of firing him. Small potatoes. That kind of hiring goes on at a lot of universities.

I'm not saying Petrino wasn't his own worst enemy, it was stupid.

But he had Arkansas turning the corner and his dismissal probably set them back about 6 years in momentum.
