You forgot Nick Otterbacher who was the center on those great 2000 & 2001 teams. He is the director for football recruiting at Mizzou.
I remember his family always had their big RV (motor-home) parked in Lot #10 for the games. I didn't know who they were until at one game we were parked near them and my daughter was grilling ribs and Mr. Otterbacher came over to check out the ribs-----she had him try a few and "won him over" for the rest of Nick's career. I never met Nick but I do remember one of the Marshall games where UT had the ball inside the 5 and Nick almost knocked DB Chris Crocker out of the end zone as the UT back (probably Chester Taylor) scored easily.
Hey guys, just want to say good luck this week. Glass. Bowl should be a good atmosphere I bet. Make the MAC look good. Right now, I'm slightly leaning towards Mizzou, but I think they are overrated and can be had.
This game scares the heck out of me. We looked like gangbusters in the first quarter of our game against South Dakota State; then, you could see the kids lose focus from the second quarter on... Consequently, I'm not 100% sure what we have in our Tigers just yet. I know they're talented, but talent doesn't always transition to wins.
I know you've got a veteran club with a ton of returning starters and what looks to be a solid QB, a transfer from Bama. I saw earlier in this thread that someone shared an overly confident post from Tigerboard. I can assure you not all Tiger fans feel that way. Yes, many are confident -- due to the success we had last year. But many, many are very concerned about going to the Glass Bowl... me included. (By the way, Tigerboard s*cks. The true Tigers fans post on our Rivals website, the Tiger's Lair... unfortunately for opposing fans, it' s a pay site.)
I really expect this to be a close game. I'm assuming you all are very confident?

The familiar names I see are:
Cornell Ford
Dave Steckel
Craig Kulikowski
Brian Jones
Gone are Christenson and Yost. One took a head coaching job and the other left under some pressure due to poor performance in his area of control. Of course, Amstutz became the head coach and did will with hiring Spence and others, and getting more mileage out of Bolden, Taylor and others.
Outside of Ottenbacher as mentioned later in this thread, I think you named all of them remaining. Coach Bruce Walker just retired (another UT coach) retired before summer camp began...
So, this entire reversal in the Mizzou program is thanks to Toledo guys. I'm not sure you'd take any appreciation from that, but what Coach Pinkel and his staff have done is very impressive. They're the reason why we're in the SEC today and generating far more revenue for the school, as well as attention to the school... We recently hit an all-time high in attendance, 35K in undergrad.
Football most definitely is a marketing arm for any university these days. Mizzou football has been very good for MU. Again, thanks to Coach and what he learned while running the Rockets.
Not sure if you knew this: As of last year, Gary is our all-time leader in wins, just as he is at Toledo. Impressive career.

Certainly annoyed by the incoherent Mizzou fans I have seen so far on espn boards and certain SEC or Mizzou boards.... But heck, that's college football! We certainly hope it will be a good game. The Glass bowl won't scare Mizzou at all, but it may give us a boost. We know if we turn the ball over and don't cause any that the game won't be in Toledo's favor... But if it rains and both teams have to run the ball...I love our run D and I love our running backs. Fluellen was a good MAC guy and killed Mizzou for 200+ total yards vs. the Tigers. The tallent gap between p5 and g5 is usually height of DB's/WRs and skill of Dlines...not necessarily RB's. Hunt and jones-Moore are as good as any 1-2 punch in college football.
In the end I want to come out healthy, and for Mizzou to move on for a .500 or better season. No one is scared of Missouri after the way they played vs. SDS. Personally I think UNH is better than SDS. But we can't put a lot of stock into a week 1 game. I have Toledo by 9 because/if Toledo plays perfect. Anything less than perfect will be an L. Our kicker is a weapon and could put points on the board when the Mizzou kicker fails to do so.
I also don't speak for the fan base.... Maybe fans are scared of Missouri I am not sure. Ha.

Regarding the fanbase, you have to realize that our bandwagon is pretty full. A lot of the Mizzou fans that love to puff their chests didn't watch them flounder for years. My four years in Columbia they didn't make a bowl games... So, I've seen bad football. I appreciate what we have now. And I'm scared sh*tless of every opponent. Haha. But I'm especially nervous of Toledo -- I'm a pretty avid college football gambler, and I watched a TON of Toledo games last year. I know you have a great squad. Matt Campbell is an exciting young coach... I'm sure he's going to get a LOT of attention in the next few years from Power 5 schools.
Regarding the game and your comments about it... I think it's what makes this an exciting match-up. You have a solid run game, and I believe we have a very stout run defense. This is the deepest Mizzou has ever been at DT. We have four guys that rotate regularly. All very big. Three of the four are very experienced. We also have two defensive ends in Golden and Ray who will be drafted.
Offensively, Mauk, for whatever reason, takes a while to warm-up. He struggled a bit early last year when he was forced into starting. But then he got going and was effective. I'm not sure he'll ever be a high completion percentage QB, but the kid can throw the long ball. At this point, I believe we'll rely heavily on our running game against you guys. We have a big, mostly veteran OL, and some explosive backs in Murphy and Hansborough.
One thing is for sure: I'm glad this game is being played early, rather than at night! Less time for everyone in the stands to "fuel up"!
Question: Are you guys still mostly relying on three-step drops in your pass sets?
I know that really caused us fits last week... It didn't allow our pass rushers a chance to get to the QB. And we have two very young corners who, while talented, are going to experience some bumps along the road while learning on the big stage.

Both. Not many plays in the recap but a few quick slants and quick passes to the sides. Screen game worked well vs. UNH. Depends on the pressure
