Scheduling Questions.....Very Disappointed!
Our schedule baffles me. How may other D1 teams:

1) Have a Week 2 bye? Maybe a few but it sure looks like a great slot for Communiversity Night.

2) Don't open at home until 9/20?!!! Can't be more than 5 others.

Very disappointing early season scheduling from my perspective.

^I agree. I don't remember our home opener ever being this late. Not saying it hasn't happened before, just don't remember it. Also unfortunate that two of the five home games are in the second half of November (15 & 28). Going to have to go out and buy some long johns.

Long haul after week 2 bye...probably why eventually we will have to go with 14 freshman starters eventually. Especially if injuries start to pile up.

RE: Scheduling Questions.....Very Disappointed!
I actually like the schedule this year I the team is so young they can take the two weeks and really work on breaking down the film on assignment and technique mistakes. Also two weeks to heal up after taking on a P5 opponent. If we have to open up with a P5 opponent every year a week off afterwards would probably be good for the team. Atleast in my opinion

RE: Scheduling Questions.....Very Disappointed!
I was originally disappointed with the week 2 bye and the home opener so late in the schedule.

With Currie and Celiscar's injury in game 1, I've come around to the thought that it is a good thing that we have that week off now.

Still hate that the home opener comes so late. Will hurt crowds, unless WMU is on a roll. Hey, it could happen.......

It would be a roll of one.

Could we offer to forfeit at VT if they only pay us $150,000? Rest up, heal up.

I don't understand how a university playing 12 DI football games can only be playing 5 at home. Heck, there are a lot of school playing 7-8 at home. Even 6 would be acceptable. Any other MAC schools in the same bind? So much for home field advantage this year.

The following schools in our conference with 6 or more home games:

Six or more home games:
Akron
Ohio
Buffalo 7
Bowling Green
UMASS
Miami Ohio
Kent State
CMU
Ball State
Toledo

5 home games:
WMU
NIU
EMU

Why is it every freakin year we have 5 home games? Why do we ALWAYS open up on the road, it would be freakin nice to play at home the 1st game of the year. Also, this would of been the year to have 6 home games and a cupcake schedule given the amount of Freshman we have an inexperience. Whoever runs the schedule, (Porter or Corstange?) DUMB!!

It's Porter... philosophical approach to gain revenue through football and help offset as much A.D. expenses as possible. Football has always been the funnel. Sucks.

Payouts for this year:

Michigan $1M Appalachian St
Nebraska $1M FAU
Florida $975K Idaho
Oklahoma $975K La Tech
Texas $875K North Texas
NC State $700K Ga. Southern
Mich. St. $620K Jacksonville St
Illinois $560K Youngstown St
Iowa $550K No. Iowa
Purdue $525K W. Michigan
Oregon $525K South Dakota

http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...ed-weekend

Hows about playing @ Nebraska or Texas? When we went to Nebraska we got 800k i believe. Schedule 2 big time amounts per year that will net 1.8 million in payouts so we can get 6 home games!! Its not that hard!

RE: Scheduling Questions.....Very Disappointed!
If we had innovative marketing some of that revenue could be made up at home games.

CommU Night can be duplicated in other ways. The main draw is free food and drink paid for by corporate tents.

Education Day can be done better.

A lot of non profits that can be connected with. In a community with two large hospitals, large county and federal government offices, 4000 teachers and college professors, and a 1000 or more cops, there's a sponsorship tie in that could be had as well. Multiple military

Pfizer and Stryker to health care supply giants have over 5000 well paid employees in the area. Would be easy to target them with a corporate tie in. Kelloggs has 1200 employees between their factory and their corporate offices.

Band Days, rocket football days, Boy and Girl Scout Days, Boys and Girls Club, School tie ins (that WMU initiates, not the other way around as it has been).

You can't build a brand without people actually seeing it.

Companies are always looking for ways to build moral and continuity between management and subordinates. Give them a tent, give them a huge discount on tickets, and let Fetzer Catering come in and do the catering for COST.

They've patted themselves on the back for ten years over Comm U night. Time to build on it rather than be content with it.

Of course this takes leg work, getting off your azz and out of your office. Meeting new people, getting out of your comfort zone. Something bureaucrats arent accustom to.

Winning is the best marketing. No doubt about it. Brand away, people there don't care.

You're right. But winning doesnt matter if people havent been exposed to the product before.

Sadly for us lately, that's considered a roll.

83, I'd like more home games too. Tough to do that when wmu's philosophy is to take at least two pay days. Great example is this year. We are at Idaho, and they will likely return a trip to Waldo next year or the year after. Point is, if we want home games they have be bought or reciprocated. CommU is the game we should be buying. At best we get 6 home games every other year. I'd take that though. Right now it seems we get 6 once every 8 years

Good news is that sparty visits next year. Does anyone know if Idaho returns to Waldo next year? If so, that would huge. 6 home games in 2015 with a possible 7th has me giddy

RE: Scheduling Questions.....Very Disappointed!
We should have 6 home games for at least the next three years, as we will assumably have 2 OOC at Waldo in each season:

2015: Sparty + FCS TBD
2016: Georgia Southern + FCS TBD
2017: Idaho + FCS TBD
