Bad weekend for UH
First of was the UTSA loss.

Now the Texans just cut Case Keenum (after trading for Ryan Mallett earlier in the day).

I keep coming back to the Coog who came here talking attendance smack. I doubt he will be back. I think that was their high water mark for the season, as many of the Coog fans are fair weather types. anybody know what the official attendance was?

I am a long suffering Rams fan.

I can tell you that - based on Jeff Fisher quotes and local media reports - the Rams are in fact locked in with Shaun Hill as the starter and view Keenum as a likely more credible backup than current #2 Austin Davis (of USM fame).

If they were truly looking for a starter, more viable trade options were out there ... including Mark Sanchez, Kurt Cousins, or others.

As a fellow suffering Rams fan, how many games with real NFC West defenses does it take to disavow Fisher of this opinion?

Here I am.

Official attendance was 40,755. With around 1,500 UTSA fans that means there were over 39,000 cougar fans there. The design of the stadium is outstanding. There are a few minor cosmetic things that need to be done but overall the stadium is great. I hope some of you come check it out yourself but history tells us that isn't something the general Rice fan does.

We all know what happened on the field but the stadium is a game changer for us. The cougar community came together and enjoyed the largest on field crowd in our history. There were a lot of moist eyes there when the team came out of the tunnel.

Whether it's the high water mark or not, doesn't matter to me. We have a brand new stadium that was full of red.

Sorry. Couldn't remember your name.

I expected a sellout for the first game.

I don't expect any more.

I doubt the UTSA folks will agree to the 1500 number. But no matter. They were the only ones there at the end.

I just expect the fair weather fans who came out to see the stadium and dance to a coogs rout won't be coming back much. After all, they have seen the stadium now. Still waiting on the rout.

So I expect attendance to fall as opponents from farther away visit and failure continues. By the end of the year, I expect it to be miniscule.

Come back then and let's compare seasons.

Reaaallly, 39,000 Cougar Fans or a great number of casual fans who did a drive by of your new "Taxpayer Funded" stadium? As a Rice and UH Law grad I am torn. I wore the Blue and Grey and have many friends on the UH side. Still the vitriol spit by UH surmounts anything seen by the 'Rice guys, or gals if you want to be PC' concerning the conference realignment. I have my own issues with the Rice treatment of 'orphan sports' but my friends at UH who I competed against are more than aware, as their sports were axed in a less PC environ.

Go foosball? I got it, ESPN rules everything and the winners write the history. Still, do you think that UH and Rice may be better off cooperating instead of whoring themselves to the P5 for the crumbs that are the P5!

The stadium looks very nice. I'm glad UH did a good job with it - the city stands to gain from new construction in that area.

Houston is more than big enough for both teams, so not sure why we keep jumping at each others throats (good natured ribbing aside, of course)

RE: Bad weekend for UH
Real simple: go back and look at 2012.

As far as shitting the bed with fair weather fans and great student turnout: it's all gone now. Which makes not just the loss so difficult to take.

Back to 2012: our offense is what was killing us. Bush again is calling plays.

Last year was a different feel with Meachem but he is gone at TCU. But at least you knew the offense was not going to be so inept.

UTSA = TexasSt game. Set a record for 3 and outs. Quick up tempo plays that bush likes to call. It will kill our defense on 3 and outs. O'Korn looks worse. 7 TOs and O'Korn threw 4 INTs? That never happened last year and he was a true 18 year old freshman.

Our offense is a huge problem right now. And blame IMO rests on our OC.

Are we seriously doing this again? Stop with the dumba$$ attendance smack. Not saying UH fans have all that much room to talk, but Rice fans most definitely don't.

Fair question.

And, on a broader level, can you still win in the NFL with a Jeff Fisher "run the ball and play defense" type approach"?

Time will tell - but I am skeptical.

As optimistic as I was with the Fisher hiring, he is making A LOT of money - and was not brought in to win 7 games every year. With the fan base dwindling (for a number of reasons - including Kroenke's refusal to commit to keeping the team in St. Louis), another 7-9 team playing a boring style of football probably puts Fisher on the hot seat in 2015.

It would just be nice to be excited about the start of an NFL season again.

Watched ND Rice game - thought Bailiff would keep it more competitive but Jackson struggled. That D looked overrun obviously. Just thought it would be closer.

Look for 25K against Grambling. If BYU trounces us and we keep leaving our defense to dry - 20K rest of the way.

Still early though.

Coogs have a good defense - which is even more depressing about this team.

You are right, I wasn't at the game, but half a world away. My point is that UH and Rice, collectively own the Houston market (fire away Aggies and T-Sips) and if working together we can shape public relations message. Separately, the aggie and tsip alums and writers at "Houston's Leading (only) information source" control the media and the message. Stop trying to bring each other down, "a rising tide lifts all boats."

Hell, I'll fire away. You are delusional to think UT and A&M don't own this market.

I would like to see it, but given the abuse my wife and I endured from your "fans" last time we were at a UH home game (while my wife sported a UH cap, no less), it would have to be for a HS playoff game or other non-UH event.

The Bayou Bucket needs to come back for one.

I think it will obviously but not sure when. Our OOC is tied down next few years.

And the eyes really got moist with tears when the Cougars booted away the game. I will see the stadium sometime but I am waiting for the light rail line to be completed so I do not have to park at UH and I can enjoy the scenery along the new line.
