Video board question
We have this huge new video board yet we shoot the game in standard def instead of high def? What gives?? Blurry.

RE: Video board question
I thought it was HD. Certainly was last year.

I could do without all of the commercials and lack of replays.

RE: Video board question
Sounds like the video is provided by RocketVision which is pretty poor quality. Ads help pay for the boards.

RE: Video board question
It was definitely HD to me, but when showing live video it was a bit laggy (not sure if that's the right word to describe it).

And they definitely need to show more replays. I don't come to the game to watch the game on the video. I want to see replays, which they RARELY showed.

Can't wait for 3D glasses night! 02-13-banana

The nets "blurred" the screen. I thought it seemed HD when the nets were down.

Got used to the size rather quickly. Time to start whining for a big wrap around HD board for the South End.

Also, why don't they show game stats after every quarter?

RE: Video board question
The only thing that bothered me was the scoreboard part. Like when they showed that UA logo the background was a solid deep black. But, the scoreboard section did not have that deep black and I found that annoying due to the lack of contrast. It almost looked like they might have been using a background that emulated an old fashioned scoreboard. Well, if so, it sucked. They need to get the colors in the scoreboard section, the black and the blue, nice deep solid colors so there is crisp contrast and it reads more easily.

Other than that, love the board. Not sure if it was hi-def or not, but it was nice and bright and the colors are vivid.

RE: Video board question
The board can only show what the input is. HD boards have been around for years. Agree about no replays and team stats. Also, the same speakers in the south end were being used. First game. I'm sure things will improve.

In this day and age everything should be HD. Otherwise why pump all that money into a huge board.

Agreed, feed quality is likely the problem, not the board. ESPN's feed should be nice next week. Hopefully this will motivate the U and RocketVision folks to upgrade their recording/streaming equipment into the 21st century.

We need to keep in mind that they only had a couple of days to get up and running, hopefully there will be additions as the season progresses, such as stats, highlights/replays, and spot for timeouts remaining.

No reason not to go letterbox HD. Ads above and score below.

Doubt that will happen. The ads would have to be too small to have them above and/or below the video.

And I say we all stop complaining about the video board for the first game. They had less than 1 week to practice! Everything was not going to be perfect last night, and probably still won't be perfect next week. Give it a few games.

Exactly. I thought they did a terrific job and will learn more and more about their new toy as they go. I'm sure people will find respectful ways to get across their wishes and I'm sure there are other schools to get ideas from.

It's actually the other board I noticed gave off quite a cool glow onto the crowd on the South causeway. I'm thinking, disco fever!

RE: Video board question
Yeah, they've done well just getting it up there and operational for the first game within a short time span. Quality programming will be a learning experience I'm sure and should only get better. Quality will reflect how deep their pockets are for the video presentation budget. If you don't have a staff that is experienced, then the outsourcing costs for training, presentation software, and the know-how can get expensive I'm sure.

RE: Video board question
Is that an MIA flag below the American? Been there before?

Over-all I think the fan experience is picking up and fast.

The Boom thing was cool. Kids seemed to get a kick out of the belly pat. The kiss cam, eh, don't think people like that much? The other presentations were fun, particularly the former cheerleader and dad. The announcer, eh, to each their own. Kind of has that Ted Baxter thing down with the voice, seems a bit stiff around people. Hopefully he'll relax with experience.

A good effort trying to get the crowd involved in cheers but I still think, an announcer isn't going to do it. I bet it sounded real loud in the south sections but the north, couldn't seem to get going. Like to see them assign a cheerleader to a section, kind of own that section so people know who they are, visit once or twice a game and lead the section.

My wish list, would be a T-O-L-E-D-O around the stadium. I'd like to see if it has a stereo sound.

Hate to say it but a new band direction is kind of also on my wish list. They sound great but are so boring. They don't even look like they're having fun. I imagine the OSU guy will get picked up by someone but I have to believe he could be hired to give some formation ideas at least. Need to keep up with the Ohio U's.

Like the big tent in the Alumni Pavilion. They could improve crowd flow between hot dogs and pop and putting the tables the other direction would give more exit points under the tent. Like that the Jambulance is back in lot 10. Saw that new monster truck. Holy cow. Bet that could run over a LOT of stuffed falcons.

RE: Video board question
Since I'm on a roll about the "fan experience," that frame company under the west concourse had some nice stuff, good prices. Like to see more Rockets. Almost grabbed the Naama one then forgot on my way out. If they could get some of the HOF'ers to sign even smallish framed prints and sell them cheap enough to where they could be something to collect.... or even like bubble gum cards.... Good charity fund raiser?
