RE: A new era!
I'm afraid our young staff is just learning on the job. When you read the bios of our assistant coaches they just do not have a lot of Div 1 coaching experience collectively.

Let's just see how thing are when conference games begin.

We got creamed 45-10 by West Virginia in 2004. Did that mean much by the end of the season? Plenty for this team to work on but not ready to throw the towel in. Hopefully better play and a better outcome next week. Maryland was better than I thought they would be.

Stop referencing that game. JMU went toe to toe with that WVU team.

Today was a polar opposite. To say anything else is ignorant.

-Lee looked way over hyped. Poor passing, and didn't seem to be much of a runner.

-The DL got shoved all over the place.
-The LBs looked absolutely lost.
-The secondary wasn't too bad, except for getting burned for a long bomb TD and 2 pass interference calls.
-The only 2 things I saw that were good was the punting and all the attractive co-eds in the stands.

Did I miss anything?

Your love for Mickey and random stats?

Your right on all of the above, btw

Well it couldn't have been any worse under MM. Bet it wouldn't have been as bad.

But regardless, it isn't a love for MM. Its just that I wasn't gulping the purple koolaid that so many others here were with Withers these last 8 months..

RE: A new era!
People always said MM wasn't trying to win against FBS teams but this was exactly what he was trying to avoid. I think he went in to every one of those games trying to win but when he saw the doors about to get blown off, he called the cows in. I think my favorite time watching JMU football (and yes, I was at the national championship game in '04) was at UNC. We were getting our asses kicked by UNC and came out in the 3rd quarter and put drove the ball for 10+minutes. We still couldn't punch it in and ended up with a short field goal but that was heart. That was culture and effort. If Everett Withers is going to talk that **** he's going to have to have his team show it. They played like a bunch of ******* today. I didn't see anybody out there with a pulse.

Against WV in 2004, statistically JMU played well, especially on defense and stopping the WV running game (I was at the game.....only JMU score was by the defense....a fumble return late in the game). The 2004 team was a better team than the current version but losing by 35 points is not necessarily going "toe to toe". I am not comparing the two games, merly pointing out the 35 point loss to WV in the Championship year.

I agree. I haven't said much for the past several months, but I haven't been at all optimistic about what I have been hearing and seeing.

The purple drank has been flowing hard and slurped up with much vigor and confidence. I didn't understand it. I still don't.

I want some purple drank myself, but unlike many others I need a reason to drink.

For all those who say "You can't expect to be a powerhouse over night", go get lost in the woods and rub sticks together and see if you can light a fire. I DO expect to be a powerhouse every year every Saturday. I don't want to go lay eggs like we did against Maryland. I don't care if you're a new coach. I don't care if you have a new offense. I don't care if you have a new defense. Don't go out there and embarrass yourselves. Show up and get the job done. You didn't play Alabama, you played Maryland.

Does this count as the first fire withers thread? I came on here for the first time tonight hoping there would be one and there isn't. What a disappointment.
You people are slacking. He couldn't beat a bcs program in his first game ever. He's basically worthless.

Dude get out of here with that rational BS. We're angry we didn't dominate a big ten program!

Yeah yeah yeah....the problem isn't that. The problem is, he couldn't get a guy to quit running into a punt returner. He couldn't get guys to stop going offsides. Nothing to do with BCS programs. Unacceptable at any level. And, he didn't just lose. He got his teeth kicked in.

No, he couldn't prepare a team to compete and keep from getting absolutely embarrassed by a mediocre BCS program in his 1st game at JMU..

When you have been treated to the kind of hype we have been treated to for the past several months, and then we go out and play like an uncoached team and get completely punked, "disappointment" is an understatement.

What are you talking about?! NO games are meaningless!

You talk like you accept getting "blown out" by Maryland. I DON'T accept that. YOU can accept that if you want. I won't. At no point, from the opening kickoff, were we competitive. I expect more. Maryland is not Ohio State. If CJ Brown hadn't sucked the score would have been much worse. Maryland will likely finish in the bottom half of the Big Ten.

How the hell do you expect JMU to make it to FBS if we can't at least play a mediocre FBS team without getting completely blown out? Stop apologizing and rationalizing. Expect more!

That was brutal. We got crushed by a top 40 team. It appeared they were more prepared for us than the other way around. We should of had some surprises for them with a new staff.

We should compete with a top 40 team. One thing to get crushed by a top 10 team. If we got torched I thought it would be in the air. If Mickey had coached that games fans would of stormed the field to get him.

With all that said, I did some some things that we could grow on, but we sure did not appear well coached.

Can't go by next week, but we should get a better feel after Lehigh. I didn't expect that. Felt like we were a division ll team.

Glad he played the starters so long. They needed it. Personally I'm more concerned about the coaching than players.

We beat Lehigh and I'm ok and the seasons on track. We lose to Lehigh and I think we have a slim hope at best at making the playoffs.

That was the least competitive I've seen Jmu since. .... Wood.

Like I said I saw some hidden good things, but we need to right the ship quickly in two weeks.

Since '07, we've had 8 fbs games. I can honestly say we only competed in 3 of those. Umd in 09, vt in 10 and Akron in 13.
The other five would qualify as embarrassing, and also typical losses for Fcs programs against bcs competition.
Our lines got dominated, but don't they always do in these games? This is the most meaningless game of the season.

MD MIGHT be a top 40 team. I'll believe that if they can go at least .500 in the Big 10..
