people's heads will explode, but 7th round draft picks frequently fail to make the roster.

Of course. It will be brought up the next time the NFL wants the urban, gay friendly voters to approve a new stadium deal. Where are the Gay employees of these organizations? Ill bet there aren't any in amongst the THOUSANDS employed in scouting/coaching/player development.

The fix was in as soon as he came out. He was immediately downgraded by the scouts. The NFL had to make a team that didn't need a player in his position draft him because it would look awful if they didn't draft him.

He then proved himself on the field, but then was cut anyway.

He isn't playing in the NFL because he is openly Gay. No other reason. The Vikings cut Kluwe because he supported Gay rights. And the NFL is filled with horrendous bigots.

Lets face facts, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes crowd is very anti-Gay and want to preserve sports as a place where Gays aren't welcome and Gays are demeaned. They've won this round in the NFL.

If we don't make the NFL pay a huge price, it will be 20 years before a player comes out.

I think the nfl is probably (secretly) willing to risk the gay football fan market, and the gay player pool.

I could see him make a team's practice squad - all NFL teams can start signing practice squad players tomorrow.

It looks like he just got beaten out by a better play with more heart.

Rams say they would be interested with him on the practice squad.

The NFL's first openly gay player led the Rams with six tackles in Thursday night's 14-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins, but earned lukewarm praise from coach Jeff Fisher.

Jeff Fisher- http://www.crosswalk.com/faith/spiritual...81266.html

The fix was in. It was pretty much obvious when he was drafted by the Rams. The Rams didn't need to draft anyone at Sam's position. Someone at the NFL office said "you're drafting Sam". They'll keep him on the practice squad and keep paying him to keep him quiet. If I were him, I'd say "I led the team in tackles on the field. I led the team in sacks. But somehow I didn't get a chance to play".

Did you see Sam's stats in the pre-season games? Who 'beat' him in tackles. In the last game, he led the ENTIRE TEAM in tackles.

And like a siren calling a sailor, here's one the people I was referencing. It is so refreshing to get the S.O.S. (Same Old Sh*t) from a tolerant gay liberal like Tom, to tell all us straight folk how INtolerant we and (by extension) the NFL is.

he was probably playing against guys that will be bagging groceries next week. but even so, one performance doesn't get you over the hump (no pun intended). it's about a body of work.

do you honestly think the rams would damage their team by cutting the guy if he was that phenomenal? just doesn't make sense.

Again, the fix was in. The NFL is a league where people like this are revered by the league insiders http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foot...ill-happen

And the Vikings fired a player for being Gay supportive and then had to settle a lawsuit because of anti-Gay harassment by the homophobic people running the team. And then there was the Ayanbadejo situation.

Can someone please show me what made Sam not qualified?

The SEC player of the friggin year.
The best defensive player on the field during pre-season

Not picked up. BS.

oh, and simply being gay doesn't make him "qualified", either. the nfl is probably the world's fiercest meritocracy. you sink or swim based on your skills.

That is blatant and boldfaced lie, that you and the rest of your bigoted and intolerant "community" refuse to admit. Kluwe was cut because he didn't do his JOB. Nothing more, nothing less.

He led the whole friggin' team in tackles. And sacks. Sam excelled on the field.

You sink if you support Gay rights or are openly Gay. That's obvious. People like Tony Dungy, openly advocate for discriminating against qualified Gay players. The Vikings had to settle a lawsuit over anti-gay behavior in the league. The Ravens fired a player for being Gay supportive.

Sam's situation had nothing to do with qualifications. It had everything to do with institutionalized discrimination embedded in the league. People are openly advocating discrminating against Gay players simply because they are Gay. That's a fact. And they aren't tossed out on the street but allowed to participate in the league as TV analysts. And have their names inscribed in places of honor on NFL stadiums.

A man advocated killing all Gay people. He is still employed by the Vikings. And the friggin' head coach said he wasn't going to disagree with that comment. Please.
