lets give Compher an F for the PC game, but you have to give him an A for the Chissick center a much more important accomplishment then this 1 game.

He left with the thing not fully funded and he only got the project one new mil+ donor. How is that getting an A?

He couldn't even get the Yordon Center fundraiser completed and had to roll 2mil into bonds.

He was great at focusing on academics and keeping the athletic departments budget in the black...barely. That's about all he deserves an A for.

dosagree

Please elaborate...

i am personal friends with one of the big donars to the indoor and he gave the details and your rendition is wrong. Compher moved the ball forward in a positive manner. Lets move on and enjoy these golden times of niu football. We did not get to this point by being lead by idiots.

You guys have had one hell of a run at home & some of that is because Compher scheduled FCS schools and nobody else in the MAC could give you a game except your beloved Rockets (Laugh Laugh). A few better FBS teams coming in could have meant a loss or two but the past few NIU teams would have probably won and created even more excitement. His scheduling philoshophy has finally caught up and is creating fan base issues and your new AD is trying to address as fast as he can. The poor guy is working his ass off and is probably losing sleep at night all thanks to Compher. By the way I never bought into Compher saying FBS schools would not play at NIU. He was probably just lazy or didnt have good connections. Your new AD blew up that theory!

+1. We still have like 4 games in 8 years @Nebraska. Other than that, before too much longer we'll be rid of the CSE (Compher Scheduling Effect). Though I believe it was the interim guy that signed up Presbyterian (probably had instructions from Compher though).

I believe we were suppose to play Idaho. Idaho had to cancel because they went to a new conference leaving us with a hole, thus PC.

Which was due to Compher. He was buddies with the Idaho AD & set up a home and home, which of course involved us on the road first. I'd go so far as to say Idaho was hardly a better game than Presbyterian, really. Idaho's D1, but their version of D1 makes a mockery of the term.

The further we get away from the Compher regime, the more I realize the guy was an empty suit. He did have some accomplishments. He wasn't a d*ck. But, anecdotally speaking, he always found it easier to operate based on what we couldn't do rather than what we could.

HuskieBob can corroborate this one: we tried to get him to ask a bar that was hosting a Huskie event to actually have an NIU flag up amid all the Big Ten crap met with something like: "Yeeeeeah. I'm not sure we can make that happen."

Ha, I had lunch with him and Shelley Binegar once. I threw out a bunch of ideas about how to improve the stadium, improve the game day experience, improve the public perception of NIU etc. and that was his response to just about every one. He always thought in terms of obstacles rather than opportunity. And he was so awkward and clearly uncomfortable during our lunch I felt sorry for him. He was just really unsuited for interaction with alums and donors. But you have to give him credit for what he did accomplish: Built the Chessick Center (whether it was fully funded or not, he got the thing up), built the soccer/track complex, hired Dave Doeren, Rod Carey and Mark Montgomery. That ain't bad. We should be grateful for what he did and thankful that Sean Frazier is doing such a great job as his successor.

Per @NIUAthletics, last Thursday's student attendance of nearly 5k was the most since 2011. Let's go for 7k on 10/4 @NIUlive @NIU_Admissions

Without us being unbeaten and ranked that 7k goal is not happening. Especially not for a game that is the week before homecoming.

Per Groth from a NS interview back in 03 we didn't even have 6k students in the stands for the Maryland game.

i thought the student turnout thur was pretty darn good. Most on this board don't remember the days of maybe 1,000 students. Just need to get schedule in a more even manner, have 2 non con games at home against, yes, better competition and hope the weather forecast is good. I for one think weather forecasts play a big part in attendance and with radar available on the phone many make decisions ahead of time. Now lets go beat NU.

There are several non-students on that side (which I have pointed out earlier also), but not a large % by any means. Both sides were about 1/2 full. It was what it was.
