Yeah, it was more a situation from the old Big East of, "we're desperate, you're not as woefully inadequate in FB as when we relegated you, and the BBall schools are whinging that we never make any all-sports adds with any BBall pedigree."
And they were only ranked 8/11 in the pre-season media poll, with one of those "lost a lot of close games, maybe they can win some of those this year" situations seeming like the main thing putting them ahead of Tulsa, Tulane and UConn.
Why I regret missing the game is that they were two not-highly-regarded teams in their respective conferences, and the low-expectations Go5 school beat the low-expectations SEC school like a throw rug on spring cleaning day.

I'd reckon neither Vandy nor Kentucky reckon they ought to be considered in and amongst MAC schools with losing records.
