I have two very distinct memories from that day, because like most, you couldn't see it live. Though I imagine the illegal stream sites everywhere were busy that day.

The first memory is as the 2nd half goes on, ESPN starts cutting in every couple minutes to update. At some point it dawned on me that ESPN was actually rooting for App. They knew they could write a million stories about that upset, and they did. Its incredibly rare to see ESPN root for the Little guy.

The second memory is the fact that I laughed for at least the next two weeks everytime I heard the App State radio call of that final play. It was the best pure, homerish radio call I had ever heard. Part of me wants to run into David Jackson when App comes to Jonesboro in November just to tell him I loved his call of that play.

I guess for the 3rd memory. I decided after that game that I wanted Arkansas State to play App. It became my life's goal. I had to know where we stood against the FCS Elite. I needed a comparison of some kind.

Somehow I remembered that GS beat App that year because I think ESPN ran pretty much every score of App's for the rest of that season.

People overlook it since Stanford has been good of late, but their win over USC in 2007 was also very big and sticks out in my mind. IIRC it is the biggest upset in college football history just going by point spread.

Calendar year 2007 was just a very wild year of college football.

By the way, check out the "Miracle on the Mountain" radio call. I love the way David Jackson says "who cares" when the color commentator says they are being penalized for celebrating.

It was a pretty big upset, but Stanford had a lot of advantages that App State didn't in terms of recruiting.

RE: SI - The Greatest Upset of Them All
That is one very cool article the way you can scroll and it reveals the picture. I've never read an article formatted in this way before. I was tired of all the Michigan talk halfway through the following week. I felt offended that after all the great wins and championships, with the run we were on, that that was what should have been in the media spotlight and not the Michigan victory. For true App State football fans at that time this win wasn't shocking, surprising that we won, yes, but no, not shocking. Most close followers of our team excepted the game to be close and not a blowout. The previous season we could have easily beaten LSU if not for a few drooped passes. We oozed with confidence during that era because we simply won so much. I remember going to games lamenting the boorishness of it all because we'd blow out opponents week after week. There were only about three games every season that you believed would be competitive going in. Even the FCS championship game was a blowout over the Joe Flacco led Delaware Blue Hens. Our toughest games during that run were against the top 2-3 teams from our own conference since they knew us so well, a la Georgia Southern and Wofford.

Once upon a time you guys beat a big time program. You guys really need to leave it in the past. Your best days lay ahead. It's not good for your program or fans. I'm very sick of hearing about it. I'm sure most non Appy fans are sick of hearing about. It's a what have you done for me lately world.

Why don't you just take the Stick out of your ass and let them enjoy it. Just because you don't like other people celebrating doesn't mean we have to hear you ***** about it.

Please leave my body parts out of any discussion. Any time you get in SI it's a good thing for your program. Reliving a game seven years old is not. Once upon a time we beat a #18 Texas A&M team. We lived off of that for about a decade of miserable football seasons. The best days of Appy State lay ahead.

Would normally kind of agree with you. But not since we play them again tomorrow.

Hey I hope and pray you guys do it again. I will be an Appy fan tomorrow. BTW, I do like people. I happen to be one. 04-cheers

I get your point and somewhat agree with the exception that this is the first time we have played Michigan since we beat them. If it were the 3rd, 4th, or 5th time that we have played, then it would be different IMO. In the meantime, Give'em hell App!
