Medicare: Not Such a Budget Buster Anymore
Wow. I found this shocking. We'll see how accurate this trend remains.

Wow, surprising this is not being discussed more in the media. I do believe trends in health care are big part of this which will continue to help with costs. Nurse Practitioners and Physician's Assistants are becoming more and more common.

Yeap. It makes sense. Why should we be waiting hours to see a doctor because our kid has the flu when a PA or NP could do the same thing? If its serious enough move it up to the Dr. level.

My wife will be going to NP or PA school soon. She's in the process of deciding now.

Think if we could have school vouchers, the cost of education would drop. The Unions would no longer have the upper hand.

I think it is a good Idea to have NP and PA. For an ear ache or stitches or triage appointment, skilled NP or PA would do just as good a job as a doctor.

NP's and PA's do much more that ear aches and stitches..
They are educated, trained and specialize in all medical areas. My GF just completed her clinical training with a cardiologist practice, they use NP's just like all specialized practices as well as General Practitioners.

Well you can go to a NP for surgery. I am not saying that there are not good NPs and PAs but this is a way to circumvent going to medical school. We have a shortage of MDs and DOs but an increasing requirement for medical treatment as people age, more illegals come into the country etc.

I just want a choice on who I see. This will be gone in the near future.

When you know little about something you should really do some research and think things through. You really post some asinine statements.

FYI

The AAMC cautioned policymakers, however, that steady growth in medical school enrollment won't translate to more physicians. In fact, it won't create one new doctor unless Congress lifts the 1997 limits on residency training positions, AAMC president and chief executive Darrell Kirch, MD, said in a press release.

Of course I didn't mean to disparage the skills of NPs. But I think we can agree that MDs spend way too much time on treating patients that could be seen by NPs and PAs who, while very qualified, are much cheaper.

NIUGuy, I did not think you did. It was Klakes ear ache and stitches comment was disparaging IMO.

It is circumventing the MD rules. Not saying that is wrong but I don't want someone performing surgery on me or prescribing chemotherapy without going to med school.

Do you know how to read??? NP's and PA's would do neither surgery or prescribe chemo..you need to learn about things before you make stupid comments on thing you know nothing about.

That is all.

At this point, you are correct. Because of the aging of the population and the huge influx of people seeking medical treatment due to Obamacare, not enough doctors(and good ones) to go around. So they have to allow others to do some of the functions of doctors. Plus a NP or PA makes a lot less then a DR.
