terrified of dogs?

I'm staying at an Extended Stay Hotel and I've had multiple incidents of walking outside and various minorities being scared shitless of my dog. This isn't some vicious dog either, he's a lab mix that weighs about 30 lbs. I've had children run away from us (only got around 10' from the dog) crying to their mother. An Indian man almost crapped his pants trying to jump out of the dogs way whenever I exited the same door he was about to walk into. I literally believe he thought the dog was going to attack but he was just standing there with a stupid grin on his face like normal. The exact same thing happened with another Indian or Pakistani guy.

is this really a question worth asking???

In many *many* parts of the world dogs and cats are tools to be used, not members of the family. If you have a dog it's to herd, protect, or serve another function. You don't get doggie daycare, you don't spend thousands to keep fido alive when he gets cancer, and you don't keep them in your house.

simply put, in other parts of the world dogs are used as legitimate guard dogs and are much more aggressive than the ones we see here. Then there's the whole civil rights/slavery connection on top of that...

Thank you. That makes sense. I knew why some African Americans are afraid of dogs but I think about that regarding other parts of the world.

I think you add to that that there are many more aggressive, feral dogs in those places.

So, those parents don't buy dogs as pets, and the children are left unfamiliar and apprehensive about an enthusiastic animal that's the same size as them.

Just admit that you just don't get "it" instead of calling everybody ignorant. Your shtick is getting old. In many places dogs are/were used to control people. Those people then teach their kids/grand kids to fear dogs. At some point in history (in this country and others) dogs were feared, this fear (along with many other superstitions and traditions) is passed down.
