Shifty what are your strengths heading into the season and which areas have depth?

Strengths...D-line, safeties, wide receiver depth.

Weaknesses....O-line, running back, linebacker, cornerback.

Honestly, if we stay healthy we should compete and win a few this season. Literally a few....3/4. But there are so many question marks, positions that lack depth, youth, inexperience that we really can't afford injuries....and two of our first 3 opponents are MS State (usually average but probably good this year) and powerhouse Alabama....so yeah....I dont know lol

After getting blown out of the water almost every single week last season, I just want to see a team that is competitive.

Excited to get the season going.

Anxious to see how the players are, especially QB and WR.

Wish we did not open at Oklahoma, because I am not sure we can evaluate our team from this game.

1. Will the pre-season hype have the guys too tight to perform well out of the blocks.

2. The RedHawks have an experienced, high level quarterback just named as the starter. Yes, he played in a back up role at Notre Dame, but he wouldn't have been recruited there if he hadn't had some real skills. How well he adapts to a new coach, new system and new team is an open question.

3. It's been hard to prepare for this game. Not much good film on the Miami situation according to beat writers in West Virginia due to new coach, system, etc. Hard to know what Miami will present.

He isn't that great of a QB and even if he was it won't matter. You could put Joe Montana on Miami's roster and he would struggle because the pieces around him are FCS level at best. Their RB is terrible, their OLine is questionable, and the only have one decent WR.

I don't get our fans giving so much credit to this team. Last year we did this. Talked about how their QB won that bowl game and how they will be hungry and all that mess and look what transpired. Their depth is non existent. The only way Miami is even in this game is if we fail to show up.

What are you most excited about?

What are you most worried about?

I have zero confidence and that's probably too much.

I'm most excited about the possibility that Oglethorpe might reestablish football. I could take my kids to and from the games on the MARTA.

I'm worried about how people will respond to our inevitable 50+ point defeat at Mississippi State. There is still a core of USM fans. Those left are the unambitious, the mediocre, the bored townies, and the plain stupid... but they still outnumber most other second-tier programs' fans. They've been able to tolerate getting skull-dragged by teams that no one from Mississippi has ever heard of or will remember 10 minutes after the game, but getting destroyed by State will quite possibly be the thing that finally gets across to these yokels and sends the mustard-colored regalia into the back of the closet for good.

Now, there is another way to respond. The Tractor Supply crowd I'm speaking of could use next Saturday as a wake-up call, and finally do what's necessary to elevate USM from the embarrassment it is today. But I put the chance of that at less than 1%. If we had any balls, we would have used them long ago.

I think everyone is at least optimistic their team will have a good season, and I for one think WKU will surprise some people this season.

Most excited about seeing our WR's core improve big time, last season we we were really young.....A year wiser and 2 stud Juco's in the fold should really make our offense go this season, or at least that is the hope..

Our defense, a lot of them do not have experience and reading our DEf. coordinators comments today I am really worried, haha....I am sure its just the usual coach speak, however it may take a few games for our defense to get going....

2. Expectations. I love that we finally have high expectations again.

3. Road games. No clue why we're so drastically different on the road, but it has to stop. In my opinion, road game improvement and a CUSA Championship are the steps forward Marshall really needs to establish this season.

Agree. DOC has to find a way to get this team ready on the road and prep differently than he has. 8-18 could turn into 14-18 on the road this season if our guys are halfway focused going into the games. I have noticed the guys walk onto the field several times under Doc with no energy and enthusiasm. I hope that changes this year. We will know at Akron, because miami oh could be beaten by huntington high school
