RE: OT: tribe announce 27M stadium renovation
Couple of thoughts:

First off, like UNH, they deserve a first class facility. Glad they're upgrading.

Also, I do wonder if they now finally fill in that large and silly gap between the 40 yard lines. I realize why it was there back in the WPA days of cow auctions but it's time to fix that. It's lost prime seating.

Lastly, it must be nice to have such well off alums who can stroke these checks. They have Thomas Jefferson as an old alum and we have Mildred the teacher. Our time will come though.

Congrats Tribe fans- it looks nice.

Based on the picture that is in the linked article, I believe that the improvements are on the other side of the field.

Apparently, they're going with a green turf...when will the customized turf colors end?

Technically, this is a reset. Their field was green AND gold... after Mr. Fenner deposited gold helmet paint from a Tribe DB on that surface back in 04.

An RFP surfaced and was floating around awhile ago, and the project is almost all focused on the "other" side away from the cattle entrance. That older document indicated there would be upgrades to the box area above the cattle entrance, but nowhere has there been any mention of filling it in. Would love to do that and sell those seats, but I'll take this for now; everyone seems pretty excited about the facelift.

This has been in the planning stages for quite some time. They have been mum about until they secured most of the funding. JMU has a number of donors that can give large gifts (not in the $10M range) and when the university decides to focus on the return on investment for giving to various projects, the money will likely flow. We have the capacity to handle a multi-tiered fund raising campaign if it is rolled out correctly with the proper ROI. I am not at all interested in doing piecemeal giving as part of this campaign. Bring me a good business plan for what you want to do, why you want to do it and how it benefits the vision (once this is better defined), and I will consider it. We have a ton of donors that will give gift between $10,000 - $50,000 if the business plan is good. If the plan is not well done, the donations will reflect the university's work product.

JMU has its own capital fundraising project with the new Convo. Let's see how what we can do and how long it will take us.

Good for them. If we're gonna be in the CAA, it would be nice to have our opposing facilities be enjoyable.

We did briefly consider building half an FBS-sized stadium to signal our long-term commitment to remaining FCS.

Ha! We did 2/3's, so take that.

We're not eyeing a move up, but as far as the capacity it's pretty unclear what the final number will be. The press release says capacity would remain the same or slightly increased, but I have a hard time understanding how that is the case when a second deck and suites are added. Apparently they have to widen the existing seats which will offset some of the addition, but I personally think it will be +2500 give or take when all is said and done.

Suites will actually decrease your capacity. Big money way more than offsets the loss of seats to the little man as long as you sell them out.

Good to know, JMU's commitment to FCS is even greater than I was led to believe.

I'm relieved that somebody that scored 1560 on this SAT finds this puzzling too.
