What if other teams win?

You're only as good as your best program? Anyone else been mentioned by ANY other media source to be a talking point to get enough votes to be near any poll? Not that I've heard of and even with Marshall we've heard the weak schedule in the next breath... so if they fall, I think it's better luck next year for the conference hopes!

Just because you're not getting preseason buzz doesn't mean you're locked out of the polls for the entire season. Honestly CUSA would be better off if someone other than Marshall rose to the top because everyone else has opportunities for quality non-conference wins.

Correct and I personally hope Marshall loses 2 maybe 3 games all in the conference . If Western takes care of business that's better for my school or any school competing against them for the eastern championship than to see Marshall in the top 25.

The likelihood of any of us going undefeated is a long shot but it's just as good for the conference for any of us to go 12-0 or 11-1 as it is for Marshall.

When I look at Western's schedule I don't see one game that is a 75% or greater sure loss. There are 3 I would list as 60 to 70% those being Marshall, Navy and Illinois . But still all 3 are winnable and it's better for the conference if we all scheduled winnable games...

on the flip-side I only see 3 games where I give Western a 70% or above of winning. But I consider that a great schedule to get noticed. Of course wins must happen for that to take place.

Thats not true. Especially with the hype and where Marshall starts in the rankings. I hope WKU wins at least 8 games. But the last thing CUSA needs to appear strong is parity. We need a bell cow, this year its marshall. And your figures on winning are a tad optimistic. Id say you have more of a 15% chance to win in huntington. If we were on the road, id say 35%.

I can guarantee you Western would get more love from the national press by going 4-0, 6-0, 8-0, 11-0 than if Marshall does the same.

Even if Marshall wins and others ahead of them in the polls lose Marshall will get jumped by the middle tier P5 school who's also winning. So while it will take longer for Western (any C-USA school) to get in the poll than Marshall by the end of the year a 11-0 Western and a 11-0 Marshall will be about the same in the polls...

with one huge difference...everyone will be saying but Marshall has such a weak schedule. While Western beat the preseason #1 Mac school, a B10 school that will most likely be bowling and a very respected Navy team and Army.....

and that puts Western at 11-2 OOC for the last 3 years. You can bet the farm it gets more national press than a 11-0 Marshall. But I don't think any of us will go 11 weeks without losing

ESPN releases Preseason Conference Football Power Rankings
In this particular ranking, yes, a G5 is only as good as its best program.
Or rather, it's best top 25 program(s).

That huge gap between the P5 and G5 is not competitive level on the field. It's how they are counting the AP top 25 poll as half of the ranking.

Any G5 conference will easily go to the front of the line in this rank if they get one "bell cow" ranked top 25 (and no other P5 does.)

And as far as "national perception", that's probably a better way to rank it than true power top to bottom.

Who's our first bell cow? Just look to the herd...

Let's go Marshall

The flaw in this logic and all the other "we would win with that schedule" talk in conference is you would eventually play Marshall. If Marshall beats a team head on, it makes the "we could do it" or our SOS is harder talk mute. Yes, you may have played higher ranked teams, but you still have to beat Marshall.

Two undefeated teams in the conference are going to meet in either regular play or the championship game. Those outside the conference have a much stronger argument in this regard. It is puzzling why teams that we play would complain about our schedule. If you feel Marshall is over ranked, you have the chance to prove it.

I do agree that any school in our conference going undefeated would get noticed. Winning is the solution for every program.

Why do you think I stopped at 11-0? it's the only way both of us could be undefeated.

I would love for both of us to enter that game at 11-0 but I'm fairly sure nether of us will. This was only a "what if" to show it's just as good for the conference...maybe better, it another school besides Marshall went undefeated.
