I bet McIntosh is the starter....If we had less weapons or younger weapons who didn't play before, I think you could roll the dice..but with the talent returning, you just need a guy to not screw up..

He is the #3 TE...so left out of the 2 deeps.

Why is that even a question? Semisch has been 3rd string since he got here.

I had heard that Ben Compton was the surprise of camp. He exceeded all expectations. I thought that he would start at DE, but they liked his speed at DT. He is my pick for an impact player. 8 1/2 sacks and 14 tackles behind the L.O.S. last year.

I also heard William Lee is a bit of a character in a good way. I think the DT's are are going to surprise in a good way. He is also a great recruiter for NIU. Lots of personality.

IMO it's a shame with his size you'd think he'd be useful somewhere.

Just because your big doesn't mean you're a player. He's not physical enough to play defensive end which is really the only other position he could play unless they put a lot of weight on him to play OL, which again he isn't physical enough.

He really doesn't fit the system very well. Not a good run blocker and the TE isn't a necessary pass catching offense outisde of two passes a game for them.

"you just need a guy not to screw up" sounds the same as "playing not to lose" instead of playing to win. You put the players on the field who give you the best chance of WINNING. Not the players least likely to screw up.

I'd rather that the QB is already in place and is being given every opportunity to have a successful season by getting most of the first-team reps. Anyone know Carey's plan and the line of his thinking in regards to the QB position???

I am just playing it in my head that Carey wants every single edge he can get vs NU.

It's almost unimaginable to me you don't have a starting qb at this point. This really really hurts niu in the non conference season

MD, come on man....what if they come out 4-0? Has it hurt then then? We have no clue yet it it hurts them, let's see how it plays out when they actually take the field...perhaps your correct but let's see it unfold

Whoever starts will be a first time starter. You are splitting reps three ways among those three players? Those are reps you just can't afford to lose. Why there is a fear to pick a qb is beyond me but if this was tennis this would be called an "unforced error". No reason this had to happen

Fear? Dude, do you hear yourself talk?

I want them to name a starter too, but let's be real, getting a clear front runner come Thursday isn't a horrible situation.

Yes,you've given up reps, but it's also impossible to replicate a live situation.

I guarantee NIU goes at least 2-2 in non conference that's far from screwed. Even if I knew the QB was a stud, 2-2 isn't screwed.

It's just tough as a fan to know your coach is not putting the team in the best position to win.

Yeah it sucks, but you don't know what the future holds so you can't make statements like that. You also can't say they're fearful, it's seriously idiotic to say things like that.

Everyone on this freaking board is a bunch of armchair QBs and coaches.

I'm not the biggest Carey fan, but he has a better clue than anyone on this board. Let the **** play out. When they go 9-3 or better, I guarantee nobody will come back and call themselves an idiot for thinking they know better than him. They will be like well of course NIU has so much talent.

Chill the freak out until NIU plays northwestern. If they get smoked (which they won't) then *****. If they lose a close game everyone will still ***** even though NIU has been losing close BCS games for years, so it's really not a change from the norm.

Is anyone in touch with reality?

RE: 2 Deep! (Spoiler: OR is the Starting QB)
I feel like our best chance to beat the Mildcats is to have the starting QB established and our coaches and players giving the No.1 guy every chance to be successful. If the guy our coach chose shows that a mistake was made then the coaches should move on to the next guy. Obviously we all hope the first guy is the right guy who gives our team the best chance to win. My biggest fear is that had the QB not stunk, we would have definitely beaten NW. Hopefully, that won't be the case.
