Reid apologizes for remarks at Asian business group event but loses an endorsement

The chamber on Thursday endorsed Republican Mark Hutchison, not the Nevada Democratic senator’s pick, Lucy Flores, according to The Las Vegas Review Journal.

Reid said at the event: "I don't think you're smarter than anybody else, but you've convinced a lot of us you are."

And he concluded his remarks by saying: "One problem that I’ve had today is keeping my Wongs straight."

Reid reportedly left the luncheon after his speech and missed the formal endorsement announcements. The chamber said Flores said he would attend but failed to show.

"My comments were in extremely poor taste and I apologize," Reid told Politico on Friday. "Sometimes I say the wrong thing."

Hutchinson also has the backing of Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Asians are the fastest-growing minority group in Nevada, which means their endorsement could help Hutchinson in the close race.

“I think this is a very important endorsement,” Hutchison told the newspaper.

I don't think what Reid said was offensive and anyone who was offended by it is too sensitive. But this is the world Reid created and it probably sucks for him that he has to live in it.

Only Asians?

Dems are afraid of Asians. They are not the Low Information type of Voter the Dems need to win

first of all, he's wrong. there is a strong cultural component to intelligence, and asians are just smart. in college, if you were unfortunate enough to draw a hard science/math/technology class with more than a couple of asians in it, you had to bust ass, or get obliterated by the curve.

I think it is cultural...The Asians I know work harder than anyone else and force their kids to as well.

It is for sure cultural. In many Asian cultures you shame your family for not succeeding. The pressure is incredible on these people to not fail.
