Some people say things that are beyond the scope just to set themselves a mark to hit. They have a lot of pride and if they say they are going to win a championship then by Jesus they need to get it done. It becomes a matter of pride to them to do things people didn't think was possible.

With maturity, a person needs to set goals that are a stretch but attainable. I think a MAC championship is attainable. National championship, not so much. Not at all.

So yes, engage brain before opening mouth. Exactly.

Get respectable.
Have a winning season.
Win the Michigan MAC.
Win the MAC West.
Win the MAC.
Play in a bowl.
Win a bowl.

If that list gets done, it will be a first for WMU, and Coach will be a hero in my eyes.

Can chalk a lot of hyperbole up to inexperience, youthful enthusiasm for awhile.

But that time has past.

I think this is just a function of his excitable personality. He got overly excited about his first full recruiting class, and the talent they are bringing in, but has probably just realized that he has to mix in the freshmen. Plus, it's not smart to waste redshirt seasons just for the sake of doing so.

It's part of what makes him a good recruiter, but part of what makes him say stupid things. He has already started to calm down a bit from last year media wise, and probably will continue to do so as he gets more experience.

Slightly off our topic...but Maddie is listed as NIU's 3rd string QB.

No he's not. Learn how to read a depth chart. He could very well end up being the third stringer, but he also might be the starter. It's listed McIntosh OR Hare OR Maddie. Really nobody knows at this point.
