ESPN: Miami and VT need to step up (+1 more)
Quote:With only four spots in the playoff and five power leagues, somebody is going to get left out. The nightmare scenario, of course, would be for the ACC to be on the outside looking in, with strength of schedule the big reason why.

The only real way to fix that is for the rest of the league to rise up.

With Braxton Miller out for the year, I actually think we have a chance at tOSU.

If the ACC had FSU, Clemson, Louisville, Miami and Va Tech all in the top 20 or so, the respect factor would increase dramatically.

Miami and VT have not had top 25 QB's for some time - a top 25 qb cures a lot of ills. A top 25 QB covers a lot of holes - look at NC State with Phillip Rivers, Russell Wilson, and Mike Glennon - three NFL starters in the span of 15 years - they covered up a lot of weaknesses on the offensive line.

Evidently not enough. The best NC State managed in the three eras you mentioned was a 4th place finish in the ACC in 2002 and 2010.

Was 2002 the year y'all threw a parade for the 4th place ACC team?

Well maybe this year we won't pee the bed in conference play. Our chances are good, I think, and the fan base is really starting to get energized...

Good to do what? With your QB play and defense...

Good to finally win the division to change the tune of your constant blabbering about that, so instead of "never won" it'll be "only won once". Our QB is a talented freshman, one of the best incoming QBs in the country. Have you seen him play yet? Come back to me after the Louisville game. Believe me, I'm waiting to see if it's true too. And our defense? Surely you saw how bad it was in 2012 and how 'not good' it was last year. The trend is "better", and it's looking like they will be improving again this year.

Are you good enough or is the rest of the division bad enough?

Maybe without such stout QB play they would have had more years like the last one. Tom O'Brien's recruiting didn't get bad all of a sudden. It was a constant that was covered up for years by recruiting success at just one position.

That's a good question... 03-banghead

Let's see how we fare against Louisville and, of course, Florida State to see whether it's "we're actually good-ish" versus "the other teams stink". Preferably it's the first option.

I am not a total homer, I am concern about the games with FSU, Miami, Clemson and Notre Dame. We shall see, but with a little luck they are all winnable! 07-coffee3

Although college football is very late in weighing strength of schedule, you can only hope the practice truly takes hold. And when we say strength of schedule, you have to weigh OOC strength of schedule more so than anything else. The SEC has rightly attained their perch atop the college football landscape; however, they achieved it by manipulating the polls. How so? Well, the proof is in the OOC scheduling and when stronger opponents outside of the conference are scheduled. As of 2014, the Vols have the toughest out of conference schedule with at trip to the Sooners, a game against Utah State, Arkansas State and Chattanooga. Bama plays WVa in ATL, FL Atlantic, Southern Miss and Western Carolina. Texas A&M plays Lamar, Rice at SMU and ULM. UGa plays Clemson, Troy, Charleston Southern and Ga Tech. UF plays Idaho, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky and FSU. USC east plays East Carolina, Furman, South Alabama and Clemson, Mizzou plays South Dakota State, Toledo, UCF and IU. LSU plays Wisconsin, Sam Houston State, ULM and Nex Mexico State. So, you start off in the polls base off of what? You maintain that position early by playing these types of games. Then you make sure that your toughest game is played after a bye. And, by doing so, you maintain that inflated position in the polls because the lose on the schedule will come from a conference foe who also benefited from the scam scheduling.

Obviously perception is everything and the ACC has a lot of work to do in order to right that ship. Va Tech and Miami as well as the rest of the other teams need to step their game up. But, if college football really want to make it right, then OOC schedule must weigh a lot heavier than anything else.

If college football really wants a true PlayOff then it would:

1) Go to a eight team playoff.
2) Would have the ACC Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12 and SEC Champions.
3) Would have the highest rated G5 team.
4) the Remaining two slots would be given to the two highest rated teams not in 2) and 3).

We can only pray that common sense will prevail soon. 07-coffee3
