That said, this 'snapshot' is at a particularly inopportune time for the SEC compared to the other P5. The PAC, Big 12, and IIRC the ACC are already receiving the increased media money from their various look-ins and deals signed in 2011-2012, while the SEC media money still reflects the awful deal Slive signed in 2008. Just look, it says SEC schools are making a paltry $14.6m per year from ESPN.

As for an ACC network, that is too far off and uncertain to factor in to an assessment of revenue for the next few years, and there aren't even any projections that show such a network would boost AAC revenue over their current ESPN deal.

BTW, these are the actual moneys the conferences distributed for 2013-2014:

"The Big 10 distributed nearly $26 Million. The Big 12 distributed $22 Million. The SEC was at $20.9 Million. The ACC came in at $20.8 Million, and Pac 12 brings up the rear at $19.8 Million."

http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2014/06/...68724.html

I totally agree that this sort of thing depends on the exact year you look at the data. Many people on this site have blasted the ACC (including some fans of ACC schools). Look, nobody - I mean NOBODY - is really sure what revenue will be next year, much less 4, 8, or 12 years from now. Projections are nice but in the end things tend to work out in some unexpected ways in my experience. BOTTOM LINE: don't sweat it!

A couple of points here.

1. Prior to 2013 the SEC had, but did not report T3 income in its data because it was earned and kept by the schools and not distributed by the conference office.

2. For the 2013 -14 season the SEC paid only a couple of million in T3 rights as all of the start up costs for the SECN were frontloaded in the switch over for this seasons' launch of the network. While the payouts next year will be higher they will contain the remainder of the start up charges. In the 2015-16 year the revenue earned will begin to be indicative of the true value of the SECN.

3. To answer Maize's quip about "Live for Today" remember the second part of Carpe Diem's "Seize the Day" philosophy as expressed in "Eat, drink, and make merry today while you may, for tomorrow you shall surely die!" The fall behind for the both the ACC and Big 12 is going to be a stark reality by the close of the 2015-6 season and one motivator that has to be ameliorated if more realignment at the upper tier level is to be avoided. So enjoy your blip on the radar screen while you may, because their is a Raptor just over the horizon already with a radar lock on your signal.

Unless this includes Tier 3 content, it's sort of worthless.

The ACC, Big 10, and PAC have no Tier 3 content for individual schools. It's all owned by the conference and is included in these projections. In the Big 12, SEC, and non-P5 conferences, Tier 3 content is controlled by the university. Schools like Georgia, Kansas, and Texas get over $10 million a year on top of their conference revenue.

(I could be wrong on the Big East; they might have sold Tier 3 content to Fox)

Its not worthless, but it requires an asterisk. And the distinction is that it doesn't include Tier 3 TV revenue for the Big 12 and SEC. Other things are called Tier 3, such as radio and trademark licensing, and the schools in all the conferences control that, not the conference.

What Bullet says is correct. You cannot pull out that 10 million a year number and say they make that for tier 3 while the other conference schools make zero for tier 3. That is completely wrong. Part of that is from radio and other avenues, those avenues are also available to schools that have their tier 3 tv rights wrapped up by other means.

For FBS leagues we took the number of football members in 2013-14, for the Big East and A-10 we took hoops membership.

B1G has 318 million divided over 12 teams for 26.5 million per team.
Big 12 has 262 million divided over 10 teams for 26.2 million per team.
PAC has 299 million divided over 12 teams for 24.9 million per team.
ACC has 305 million divided over 14 teams for 21.8 million per team.
SEC has 271 million divided over 14 teams for 19.4 million per team.
AAC has 72.3 million divided over 10 teams for 7.2 million per team.
Big East has 50.2 million divided over 10 teams for 5 million per team.
MWC has 31.5 million divided over 12 teams for 2.6 million per team.
CUSA has 24.5 million divided over 14 teams for 1.8 million per team.
A-10 has 16.5 million divided over 13 teams for 1.3 million per team.

**Note**
1- The SEC doesn't appear to include the SEC Network which will skew things for future projection. This list is probably for the 2013-14 season so their tier 3 tv deals (when applicable) should elevate them slightly but the unfinished negotiation on the SECN is artificially weighing down the average.

2- Big 12 does not include tier 3 tv which would add around 2 million per team if just the LHN and SoonerSports revenues were divided 10 ways, not to mention everyone else adding to that.

3- The ACC's partial non-fb membership of Notre Dame and my dividing by # of football members probably inflates the ACC number slightly as ND gets paid out of that revenue as well.

So U MASS was going to lose money joining the MAC.

It's all such hooey H1. All anyone has to do is to Google the top revenue producers in the NCAA and it flips this spin on its ear. TV money is only about 1/5th of the revenue of the top programs. The top 10 and 20 revenue producers are dominated by the SEC and Big 10 and only a few of ACC schools makes the top 20.

Just imagine what the ACC would make if the basketball first schools didn't always spit the bit early on in March Madness. One would think with all the chest beating by the fans of UNC, Duke, and Syracuse here and elsewhere about how great the basketball was going to be with them all in a conference together that the ACC would rate better than 4th in NCAA Tournament revenue.

Yes, as conference revenues are always somewhat of a moving target, any 'snapshot' picture will be deceiving to a certain extent, whether we take it now or in 2018.

I have to agree. The SECN covers most of the SE which includes most of the football schools that matter in the ACC.

I believe all 3 of the schools that you mentioned have made multiple Elite Eights and at least a Final Four in the last 5 seasons. So they don't ALWAYS spit the bit early, as you say. And if you read the article you would learn that SU's NCAA Tourney credits are still with the AAC. Same for Pitt and ND. If it weren't for that then the Acc would be number 1 in bb credits.

There is a way in which we are to look at our future and that is in the form of relationships. We are not to judge, which is the forming of an opinion by what we hear, but we are to discern, which is knowing someone by what they do. In that the Spirit will reveal with whom to share your path. (BTW I recommend the RSV of 1948 as it is far less politicized and denominational than many of today's translations, but then even it has some issues, just not as many. Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic are the way to go.)

No...actually my way of thinking on this is more about nothing is guaranteed....nobody knows what is to come good or bad and really projections whether good or bad are just that projections...Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. and how about this verse?
Quote:James 4:13-15 (New American Standard Bible)
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. Agree on everything in this post...don't even get me started on the translations...that is a whole can of worms....

3. To answer Maize's quip about "Live for Today" remember the second part of Carpe Diem's "Seize the Day" philosophy as expressed in "Eat, drink, and make merry today while you may, for tomorrow you shall surely die!" We can take that idea too far. Some things are known with reasonable certainty.

It will be a shock if over the next 15 years the B1G and SEC do not make considerably more media money than the ACC.

Agreed, but 20 years ago the ACC had the biggest contract. So who knows what will happen 20 years from now. The only thing certain is change. Media will change. Maybe the relative popularity of football and basketball will shift back towards basketball.

Maybe soccer will become popular. Alright, maybe pigs will fly.

And money is relative. All the P5 conferences will be making at least triple in media $ what they were just 3 or 4 years ago. So all the P5 is pretty happy right now.
