Another Obamacare Nightmare
Quote:Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s individual-market customers will, on average, see a slight decrease in their premiums next year under new rates approved by the Connecticut Insurance Department.

Anthem, the state’s largest insurer, initially requested approval to raise rates by an average of 12.5 percent. But the insurance department rejected the proposal and asked the company to resubmit its plan using different calculations.

The result: An average premium decrease of 0.1 percent for Anthem customers.

If you bothered to read the article, you would understand the fallacy of all of this. THe rates should jump by over 12%. By the state told the insurance company to adjust the rate back down, because the government was going to subsidize (bailout) the increases in care.

So, the rates are going up over 12%. Its just that the american tax payer will pay for it instead of the individuals.

I had an Obamacare nightmare...I dreamed GOPers who hate the poor refuse to use federal dollars to allow 140,000 low income tennesseans to go on TennCare and get medical coverage...then I woke up and found out it was true.

03-lmfao @ poor torchy taking the word of someone who doesn't know what the **** they're talking about.

Quote:The decisions follow actuarial reviews of the insurers’ proposals that included assumptions about how much health care costs will rise, the medical needs of members and the financial impact of federal protections for insurers included in the health law commonly known as Obamacare.

The reimbursements to the providers from the government is only a portion of the total picture. And it only applies to large medical claims

Quote:Anthem officials attributed the proposed hike to rising pharmaceutical costs, increased use of medical services, reduced federal risk protection for insurers and federal fees that cover the cost of subsidizing people’s premiums as part of Obamacare.

In reviewing the proposals, Actuary Paul Lombardo suggested that Anthem should reduce or remove several factors it used in calculating premiums in 2014, including the estimate of how much the cost of covering medical services will rise.

Lombardo also determined that the federal government will likely provide more aid to insurers that face large medical claims than Anthem assumed, providing it with more money than anticipated.

Yep, and the leftists that would support another unfunded mandate on the individual States love the poor SOOOOOO much-

They can hardly wait to create millions more of them.

So in other words, he is just making this schit up as he goes along. So make no provision for how much the cost of covering medical services may go up, and keep you fingers and toes crossed kids, we're hoping the Federal Gubment (the broke-asss federal government, BTW) will hand us more money, just for being us.

Sounds like a solid formula for success. 03-lmfao

Hopey-Changey! 04-cheers

RE: Another Obamacare Nightmare
So, the insurance company calculated an increase of over 12% in rates using the standard calculations they have always used. Some government dude says oh, sh*&, we cant let those rates get out, so he declined those rate increases. Then he tells the insurance company to use some new calculations.

State: "Dont use expected medical costs increases in your rates. "

Insurance: "If we dont, and those costs rise like we calculated, we would lose money."

State: "No problem, homey. We'll just have Obama bail you out. "

Insurance: "You'll bail us out for a 12.5% increase?"

State: F*ck it, let just say well bail you out for 13%, so you can decrease your rates a half percent. It will make the liberal slob knobbers actually think Obamacare is working."

Insurance: " Whatev"

RE: Another Obamacare Nightmare
And then there's this:

Quote:ConnectiCare’s proposal

ConnectiCare Benefits initially proposed raising rates by an average of 12.8 percent, but later lowered the proposed increase to 6.2 percent.

But Lombardo determined that the company’s assumption about how much medical claims costs would rise was too high, and revised it to a lower rate. As it did in Anthem’s case, the department also determined that carriers will have more financial protection from large medical claims, and required the company to apply that assumption to lower the rate increase.

The department is allowing the company to raise its rates by an average of 3.1 percent for 2015.

Currently, the company has 27,500 policies. ConnectiCare Benefits sells plans on the state’s health insurance exchange, but is a separate company from ConnectiCare, which sells plans outside the exchange.

What exactly are the hell they are talking about here? Why are they going to be protected from higher claims? Its either because:

1) Poeple are going to be refused care, which is already happening or
2) The government will subsidize insurance comapnies for the hits they take

RE: Another Obamacare Nightmare
Yes, the insurance companies will be 'subsidized' some for larger claims. That's clearly a part of the actuaries report. He's just saying that it will be a higher amount than what Anthem-BCBS says it will be. However, that's not the whole amount of the reduction...it's only a part of. I liked the report...it has all sorts of details as to why he says their original request was too high.

See? The problem with posting something like that is that I will actually read it. He/they took some pretty "liberal" liberties with a few things, so while perhaps not simply "made up" it does sound more like a smoke and mirrors routine.

The grandfathered "non-zerOcare compliant" policies that dear leader so graciously allowed us to keep- If you like your plan you can keep your plan, that whopper of a lie- are reinsured by the Feds at a lower rate than zerOcare compliant plans. So, guess what we'll do? We'll simply deem them all compliant!

Yay! now those that were reinsured at only 50% will be done at 70%! Free money from the other 49 States! Course that will cease sometime in the next year or so, unless dear leader deigns to allow his minions to keep the insurane they like, so *poof* that little rtcik will only work once.

The other "adjustments" are similar, averaging stuff instead of taking the number projected and other cute tricks, will be short lived. So enjoy the "good news" for the time being, the house of cards will fall soon enough.
