Yeah the eyes will grow on me also. The players and younger fans seem to like it based on twitter. Words like sick, dope, bad, sweet, nasty and amazing being used. College kids, teens and younger will love it because of the eyes.

It will take some getting used to, the only thing I know I don't like is that black and white box closing in the Huskies font at either end of the court. Its not needed. My only other suggestion would be to have very small Huskie head logos near the free throw lines like the old Chicago Stadium if anyone remembers that with the Bulls logo. More of that, and a little less large MAC logo.

I wouldn't say that. That court hadn't been replaced since at least '06 so it was probably just (waaaay past) time.

Is there any point where the fans, alums and supporters matter?

It is important to appeal to athletes and recruits, but since some transfer or graduate, it seems like they come and go. That's the nature of sports, but fans, season ticket-holders, alums are needed even more for a program's long-term success. It appears you're drawing a single correlation between victories and everything being "for the players."

Well, with each decision, they have to weigh "Will potential recruits and our current players like it?" vs "will this cost us money in donations?"

Most likely the first answer is "yes", and the second one is "no".

Not to mention that it's a question of personal taste. Fer cripes sake, somebody looked at the mockup of the PigDog and said,
"That's f*^&ing amazing! I can't wait to see that life-size!"

Even if it was probably the sculptor's parents.

It's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Still not sure if I'm a fan of it.

I really like the idea of it. But, for some reason when I see those specific eyes:

It makes me think of this:

I always liked this picture of the Huskie eyes that I have on my twitter page:

Probably because there isn't any depth in color. They pretty much used one solid color for the gray. I'm not a professional on painting hardwood floors so I have no idea if it's even possible to make something look any better than it is. I'm just commenting.

This BB court is making it around the twitter universe. The marketing idea of the puzzle has created an initial "buzz", now twitter will magnify the impact. Someone on twitter compared our newly designed court to the innovative Boise St. blue football field [JMHO]. Whether you like the new court or not [I do], you cannot dispute the homeruns that are being put out by our new and dynamic marketing team.

Eh...there are a few other courts like this. However most of them are from big time schools or basketball programs so it is nice to see the perception of NIU basketball get a much needed shot in the arm...even if its just with the facilities and not the team itself.

Athough I do like the BB court a lot, my point is more to the marketing side of the social networks. NIU is getting tons of exposure and free publicity by plugging in to this new world. Between schedulpalooza, the Yard, new premium alternatives, the BB court etc., I shall increase my donation next year. I also firmly believe Frazier has a conference affiliation agenda in his future plans. I just hope he stays long enough to implement it. JMHO.

Yes totally agree. I will do what I can to donate next year.

Also something told to me which will make it easier next year is the HAF campaign will start in December/January instead of March...this way you can make payments over 6 months for your donation and ticket purchase.

Dec. would make sense from a tax writeoff perspective.

Here is another angle and article from the Trib...
http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1...-81131625/

"The new floor replaces the court that was originally in place in 2002. The court design also includes increased padding to reduce the wear and tear on players’ bodies."

Haven't you always been able to do that? I've always made my donations in January and had them count towards the upcoming season.

That is because the pictures are of just the lower bowl. The upper bowl is whats wrong with the convo.

It just has no character to it whatsoever. It reminds me of the big house if the big house was dark and empty for every game. It's like playing in a cave.

Yes, seats are too far away. Architects messed it up.
