RE: MAC TV Deal
Since it seems like the NFL is on many nights anyway, I think the MAC should just take them on and play on Sundays. Nothing like an exciting match between WMU and EMU on a Sunday evening in November on espn3.com!

RE: MAC TV Deal
@McMurphyESPN: More info from industry source on new MAC/ESPN deal: worth 10M/year over last 10 years

So I am assuming a small increase over the current $1.2million per year ($100K per team) for the first three years and then the deal increases to $10 million annually ($833K per team). That seems a little more reasonable. It would also make the total deal north of the $100 million figure originally reported for the life of the deal.

I think that makes sense. It's hard not to compare to other conferences, but man going from 1.2 mil to 10mil is a huge step forward.

If it were a lead in, it wouldn't be the worst idea. Or you could play right after a game, show the game on the scoreboard (I'm SURE the NFL would be cool with that....).

Sunday is a good day. More people are home on Sunday evenings than any other day. So, you have a potentially bigger TV/computer audience.

RE: MAC TV Deal
I wonder how a college game on Sunday nights would do ratings wise. Sunday nighters start at what, 8:30 eastern? The late games start at 4:25 eastern. Put a MAC game starting at like 5:30 eastern on ESPN. Gives you alternate programming from late Sunday games and filler in the gap before Sunday night games. The question is, would it do better ratings than ESPN's usual NFL coverage during that time? I kinda doubt it..

I remember NIU playing at Miami on a Sunday night with Wolfe. That was going head to head with SNF, though.

Playing on Sunday night was weird, yet it was worth it to see Wolfe shred the Ball State defense.

Wow, the new CUSA must have a really good conference commissioner. To get a conference full of 1-AA teams almost $1 million per team while the MAC makes a paltry $100k per team.

Its not that its that they sold to someone other than ESPN. They are getting bigger money instead of bigger exposure.

They do have better bowls though.

Weren't the CUSA contracts signed when they still had Memphis, UCF, Houston and the like? When that contract is up they should take a hit.

those numbers are a couple of years old, the WAC is on there and the AAC is not. I can't imagine CUSA getting a raise when those contracts expire in the next couple of years.

We played Miami, not Ball State, on that Sunday night in 2006. Wolfe had a good night, but nowhere near the one he had against Ball State 8 days earlier. Still remember him getting caught from behind just short of the goal line because he looked up at himself on the video board in the end zone!

I sometimes have trouble seeing the listings depending on what device I'm using. Do what Bob said then type Northern Illinois into the Search box.

Yes, I tried that. I was doing that on my computer I think instead of my SmartTV. You said it makes a difference what device you use? Can you explain?

I use a desktop still running Windows XP (will change to Windows 7 Pro very soon). Also an android phone (HTC One) and an android tablet(Google Nexus) running Watch ESPN apps. All the interfaces are different, and I sometimes have the same problem as you. Using the search box and entering 'Northern Illinois' gets me what I want so I haven't bothered to fix the interface problem.

All the NIU games from last year show up on my iMac and my tablet (iPad).

Hmm, it's working now. Don't know what that was. User error I suppose. Though I get an error if I try to watch the Ball State game from last year.

Good plan.

Yes, If they make it impossible for me to go I won't support them locking me out of games.

So, you would punish NIU for the MAC's decision?

I would donate more in an attempt to get them out of the conference that you (myself, and most people) have a problem with them being in.

Would donating more really get us out of the conference, though? I can see it MAYBE being enough to get us to go independent, but that probably isn't a good idea.

The worst possible decision that we could make is to go independent. Do not repeat past mistakes. Our future lies in the MAC or the Big 12. Hopefully someday soon in the Big 12 as I believe that we could grow into that and make it a win win.

RE: MAC TV Deal
More details on the TV deal. Basically more money for the same number of midweek football games and enhanced basketball coverage.

http://www.hustlebelt.com/2014/8/19/6045...pn-tv-deal

"In a follow up interview I had with Ken Mather, he reiterated this point that the MAC does not plan to play more than 14 mid-week games each November"

"It's likely the MAC will also receive a cut from all funds derived from these sub-license deals"

"The MAC and TWC Sports Channel reached their regional broadcast deal not even a year ago, it's now officially dead as we knew it."

I hate TWC and have had miserable experiences with them in the past so I am pleased to see that arrangement die.

Like EPSN 3 or dislike it ... it will allow me and other out of state fans to watch the game this Thursday evening. I also feel like the convergence between internet and cable will continue. Smart TV's or smart boxes such as Roku are here to stay.

For someone like me who doesn't have cable, ESPN3 works just fine because I can get it either through my computer or my Xbox.

I have cable, but live in Boca Raton, Fla. for 7+ months and I am glad to get ESPN3. By the way, Fla. is nuts about college football and they ALL know about NIU and are very complimentary. I am looking forward to the Boca Raton Bowl and think it will help our recruiting as we already have a foothold here.
