new rivalries
I was just thinking this earlier. With southern and app having a well known rivalry and with all of the new members to the conference, it will be interesting to see what new rivalries develop in the future. Who do you see potentially turning into a rock, or who would you like to see your team develop a rivalry with?

If and when GaSt ever becomes competitive, I would like to see them become a rival. I lived in Marietta for 27 years plus have a degree from them and would enjoy a long weekend up there every time GaSo plays there.

Could see App State developing an additional rivalry with Troy State.

I think TXST could have good rivalries with USA, Ark St and ULL/ULM the proximity and hopefully us pushing the top of the league will facilitate this. Going to take a few seasons of close games of course.

I expect Troy vs GS to become pretty big, similar fan bases, relatively similar cities, some history even if it was twenty years ago.

I agree with this, and TXST. There is some blood in the water with them after our debacle out there sent us into a 4 year tailspin.

GA State and Ga Southern a given.

South Alabama and Troy a given.

Would like to see Ga State and Troy become rivalry as well as USA and ULL.

The Cajuns and southal have been rivalries for a long time, at one point was a very heated rivalry in baseball including a few brawls. Pretty heated basketball rivalry as well. Don't see why football will be any different

We really need to start kicking the **** out of Arkansas State and Louisiana in everything. Otherwise, we will never gardner any attention for a rivalry in this conference. If we continue to beat up on Houston then that will start an OOC rivalry.

That's something I hope the G5 conferences can develop. OOC rivalries. GS could definitely get one going with Old Dom. Those past two games were pretty heated if you were at the games

Pretty easy to get the resentment going.
No disrespect to Troy but I spent more time calling them TS and revert
sometimes when typing fast.

Troy is an easy rival for anyone. Who doesn't enjoy beating Troy? Extremely talented team that is almost certain to give you a run for your money every single time you step on the field.

Lol its all good, I'm really looking forward to playing you guys this year. I think the new additions to the Belt could easily make quick rivals for Troy, we need someone to replace the muts.

App has some history with Troy so I would expect there is a good possibility for a rivalry. I would also like to see a rivalry develop with GaSt since App recruits the Atlanta heavily and since I only live a few miles from GaSt. I expect the teams that consistently fight each other at the top of the conference every year to automatically develop some healthy hate for each other. That's what happened with App and GaSo. 05-stirthepot

I am looking forward to playing Troy again and I also think GaSt could develop into a great rival if they continue to improve. App will always be the must win game as far as I am concerned but perhaps Ark St or TX St could also develop into must win games as well.

For Georgia Southern not having a lot of experience with many in the Belt I would say the top three rivals will be:

1. App St
2. GA St
3. Troy

Yes, "southal" and "ewe el-el" have been have been heated rivals for a long time, even in ladies' softball.

RE: new rivalries
For Troy, it just makes sense for USA to be our number 1 rival. But I see the rivalry with Georgia Southern easily developing into our number two rivalry for the very reason someone already mentioned. Similar fan bases and towns and a history. Not to mention there's a lot of Troy alumni in South Georgia as well. I live in Georgia and the Georgia Southern fan base already annoys me so they are definitely my number 2.

I think we are gonna see a lot of new rivalries forming simply because of schools and fan bases being in pretty close proximity to other. Especially on the eastern side of the conference.

Maybe my opinion will change after we are in the league awhile, but Troy doesn't do more for me than any other eastern school. I would much rather beat -
1. UL
2. stAte
3. New Mexico State
4. ULM

also, I obligatory F!@# UT-Arlington. (I'm trying grow a hatred for them)

then... who it is anyone's guess

Rivals are often shaped by when a team comes into a league. It makes sense that Texas State would see AState and ULL as Rivals considering both were the top 2 teams in the league upon the Bobcats Arrival.

For someone like Arkansas State, two years after we started this league, this really annoying Troy team showed up and started beating the Crap out of everyone in fairly short order, and when they didn't beat the crap out of you, they made the game living hell for you until you did win.

Sort of like we'll always see UNT as a rival...though from the other perspective, we've beaten the Mean Green 8 straight times, so we enjoy continuing to beat them.
