RE: ND Tickets?
Hoping to get mine Wednesday. The ticket office still has some available as of this afternoon. Waiting on one or two friends that are deciding whether they want to be Rice fans for a day and make the trip with me.

Subject line made me think, "What, he can't afford them, even with his highly rated gig on Sportstalk 790?".

Got my ticket! This'll be my first away game since I was an undergrad (not counting bowls), so super excited.

Good chance I'll be staying in Indy Friday night. Anyone from around there got recs on someplace to eat there?

Also, I don't post much on here, but lurk all the time. Would love to connect with parliamentarians at the game.

Register for the pre-game tailgate, as most of us attending the game will be there!

Finally, being a native Naptowner is relevant on the Parliament!

The best restaurant overall downtown is St. Elmo's Steakhouse. It's pricey, but I think it's worthwhile once in a while, especially if you've only got one meal downtown.

For more affordable options, I'll present three...depending on the mood you're in.

For the quintessential Indianapolis experience, the Rathskeller at the Athenaeum has been the city's go-to German restaurant since the late 1800's.

http://www.rathskeller.com/

A newer favorite of is MacNiven's Scottish Restaurant on Mass Ave. In addition to the great food, they have one of the widest selections of local beers, to accompany their Scottish options. MacNiven's is over 21 only, so no kids.

Finally, there's Indy's best pizza- Bazbeaux's. I recommend the Mexican, but you honestly cannot go wrong with anything there.

Isn't the quintessential Indianapolis experience the family style fried chicken dinner at Hollyhock Hill?

Also had a few meals at Arni's when visiting Indy.

Quintessential Indiana maybe. It's good, but I never think to recommend it, because so many places in Southern Indiana do the same thing, but (in my opinion) better.

And if you're coming up US 31 on Saturday morning, get your breakfast at Sherrill's on the outskirts of Tipton. About an hour north of downtown.

Thanks from me, as well. We'll try some of these when we come/go through Indy to visit our son @Rose-Hulman (in Terre Haute).

BTW, what does "Naptowner" mean in this context, however? Urban Dictionary says it's a nickname for Annapolis, Md.

Also ... two Indiana treats I discovered on earlier visits include "Breaded Tenderloin" -- which was on the Baker College dinner menu once when I was there ('66-'70), but it appeared to be just two thick breaded layers around a nano-thick Kleenex tissue, so we called it simply "Breaded" -- and Sugar Cream Pie, a simple but delicious Amish dessert that is the official State Pie of Indiana.

A Naptowner is a native of Indianapolis, aka "Naptown." Apparently, Annapolis uses the same nickname. Officially, residents are supposed to be "Indianapolitans," but nobody uses that.

As for the breaded tenderloin, that is very much a favorite of mine (and what I had planned for my dinner tonight). Done right, it should be thin, but obviously needs to be more pork than breading, and twice the size of the bun it's served on. Get a great one 25 miles south of downtown at The Willard in Franklin.

I once had a discussion with a friend about whether there could be a worse minor league team name than the Shelbyville Shelbyvillians (from The Simpsons). At the time I suggested that Indianapolis Indianapolitans would be worse.

I always think of those from Napoli, Italia when I hear the term "Naptowner".

I always think of a retirement community just before dinner at 4:30.
