"percentage of athletic-department revenues subsidized by student fees and state support" is one of the criteria for admirable/embarrassing. No wonder we're near the bottom since Virginia is one of the few states to report this accurately

What exactly is "overall 'ick' factor" haha

Ick factor -- rhythmic slapping sounds, I'm guessing.

As for the student fees/state support issue, it must not have that much of an effect, because Virginia Tech is fairly high on the admirable/embarassing axis, and Virginia is a bit on the good side of it.

Well, the ACC does throw a few bucks their way. I looked at the chart and noticed the vast majority of schools in the bottom were G5 schools, I'm sure economics plays some kind of role in this.
