I fully expect ULL to hire him after Hud leaves for the SEC at the end of the season. UTSA better show Coker the money.

We could do worse though I honestly don't believe Hud wants to leave the program at this point. Time will tell.

"Want" has nothing to do with it. If an SEC program shows up with a 5 year contract worth $3 million a season, he is gone.

I'll take your word for it. He's been predicted to leave every year since 2011 so eventually someone will get it right.

Has he been officially offered at this point?

For what it's worth, I'm not sure I see him leaving either, but IF Muschamp gets fired and IF Florida decides Hud is their guy, I can't see him turning them down. There are probably other programs that could hire him away, but I do think it's gonna take an elite program or a 2nd tier P5 willing to pay BIG money.

Where else was he going to go? Sure money is not important to you when no one is out there offering more. I feel pretty certain if some one came along and offered him $750,000 or more a year money would become pretty important to him and he would be on his way.

Luckily for you guys most schools are not looking to hire a 65 year old to come in and run their program. Thus you guys can keep him even though he is grossly underpaid compared to many of the coaches he is expected to compete with on a weekly basis.

At 65 no one is likely to knock down his door. He is in a good place, and close to retirement, why move.

You cannot argue with Coker's success in building the Roadrunner program over the past couple of years. What he's done there is nothing short of remarkable. From what I see he's not only building a competitive team for this year's run at a Championship, but has pieces in place to keep UTSA relevant for the long haul.

Negotiations are two sided, and there is some possibility that Coker said something like, "I have plenty of money. Let's put the money to better use in building something solid for the future." Wouldn't that be nice to see, if that's what happened?

Being an old codger myself..not quite Coker's age, but damned close...I can tell you that you reach a perspective at some point, where there are more important things than money if you have enough to live comfortably. I suspect he does, and a lasting legacy at UTSA could be one of those things.

he would be a fool not to take a good sec job. he is only 45 and this is coaching. a couple of off years and he will be looking over his shoulder. unfortunately most schools and fan bases are more like southern miss than troy when it comes to how they treat their football coaches

I don't know if he's been offered. I guess it's possible someone has contacted him but he declined to interview and we never knew. I don't know how those things work at that level.

From what I understand, Hud's family loves Lafayette and he's now making over $1MM a year which goes a long way there. Personally, I think he's building something and doesn't plan to leave until he reaches his goal. When you listen to his interviews, he's high on the city/area, high on the program, and very high on the future. Then again, maybe that's just coach-speak and he'll be gone in a heartbeat when someone shows him the money.

When he does leave though, he'll leave the program in much better shape than he found it. Our next hire will be the most important ever and at least he'll have done the groundwork to help us attract top quality talent.

and that is the key at this level. you want your coaches to be hired away by larger programs because that means you have had great success and if the program is in better shape than when your coach arrived its all you can ask for. some coaches go for quick fixes and cut as many corners as possible looking for the one big season so they can take off and you end up going 1-23 like southern miss when they bolt.

Coker has the "Midas Touch" when it comes to working with football teams early into his tenure, so glad that UTSA gave him a well deserved extension, he's just the kind of coach that Conference USA needs as one of its represntatives. #Beep-Beep!

That's a heck of a discount for a coach who has won a championship and built you guys from scratch. I think Coker stays put, even if other offers come in. He's at a point in his career where job jumping is more of a hassle than an opportunity.
