My oh my...that was bad in lots of ways. Corso was 10x the d-bag in the 80's than he is now...unbelievable. That was just weird.

Corso stopped in DeKalb for a cup of coffee....where did he go on his exit? Is that the great Jimmy Piersall interviewing him?

Very interesting to see what it looked like 30 years ago.

When did we stop using the white diamond endzone?

I think the diamonds went away when the new turf was put in in 1989-90 or so.

You guys can make fun of Corso all you want, but that coaches show was on Ch. 7-ABC in Chicago and it's the most publicity we've ever had for a coaching hire. Yes, he bolted before the season was over but that's because we had an administration that agreed to a contract clause that he could leave for a pro job. Granted, a lot of people didn't think the USFL was an actual pro league, but back then he was one of the few USFL coaches who was given a guaranteed six-figure contract. At that point, that was major bucks compared to the five figures NIU was paying. For those of you always praise Sabock for his days as a recruiter, Corso took a chance on him even though he was just a G.A. for Paterno.[/i]

RE: The Lee Corso Show-1984
I remember playing Springfest softball on that turf. Very glad athletes don't have to play on that surface anymore. Hard as a rock.

Regarding Lee Corso and his show, I love it. I wish Carey would have a weekly show and break down the game. Corso was at lease classy enough to put on a suit and tie. Carey is one of the worst dressed coaches out there. Then again, he can wear a bathrobe and slippers for all I care so long as he keeps winning. Image isn't everything, but it's something.

Lee Corso was just as successful a coach with the USFL as he was with NIU. Before they hired Lee Corso, the Washington Federals were 3 - 15. But then they moved to Orlando, hired Lee Corso, and improved their record to 5 - 13.

Of course, one should also give credit to Craig James who was their starting RB.
