RE: Charlie Cobb is the new GSU AD
It's a good thing for both programs, GS gets a proven AD who will do a great job in improving the athletic dept, and App gets a new AD who will hopefully come in with some fresh new ideas. This is the biggest hire for our new Chancellor, she screws this up and she would have set the program back years and undone all the great work done by Cobb/Peacock. She had better get this right, if she hires someone who isn't going to grow the program, and is going to sit on his/hers hands and just maintain the "status quo", or even has the program regress, App alumi are going to go nuts .

Have heard some of the more mature and stable insiders say Dr Everts is one sharp cookie. I look for her to knock this thing out of the park.

It's not a matter of how sharp she is, but how supportive of athletics she is. A lot of GS fans gripe about Sam Baker (and he was part of the problem) but the man who was president (Bruce Grube) was actually the bigger problem. He was a good president on the academic side, but just about all progress on athletics stalled with him as president.

She is from Nebraska and says she grew up on Husker football.

I've always been curious who was the bigger force of change at App: Cobb or Peacock. Peacock was a very involved chancellor it seemed and was a big cheerleader on the sidelines as well. Cobb won't have that same kind of leader in Becker from what I've seen. It'll be interesting seeing what happens though.

Yeah, Becker proposing the most ambitious plan for campus and athletic growth in the history of the school could certainly lead one to that conclusion......oh, wait....

When addressing the media and alumni after being named chancellor Dr. Everts made it crystal clear she understood how important athletics, specifically football, is at App. Can't say why, but I think she was already planning on Cobb leaving. He was sucking up to the Ga State folks during Sun Belt media day to the point others noticed it. Someone from another SB school said it was really bad. Info like that seems to always make it back to your boss.

Never heard the same kind of statements or seen the same behaviors from him that have come from Keel and what App fans said about Peacock while he was there. It's just an observation, but I don't get the same feeling about him as I did when we watched all the things happening at App and wishing we had a president in the same vein. Now that we have Dr. Keel I know what they must have felt about the leadership of the University.

As someone who was intimately close to the appointment of Peacock as chancellor I can tell you he was given a mandate by the BOT to make big changes in ASU athletics. Ken was always the driving force behind what all took place at App. He reassigned the current AD after a few months on the job and brought in Cobb specifically to assess the dept and tell him what was needed to make things happen. People like to credit Charlie for increasing budgets and making big changes in the department, especially the football program that made them more competitive. He obviously had a hand in what was going on, but he would not have been able to do any of it without Peacock. Folks fail to understand that money just didn't appear out of thin air. Ken moved around a lot of dollars and free'd up other funds that made everything possible. I will always give Ken Peacock far more credit for what took place at App than Charlie Cobb. Fact is I put Cobb in 5th place. Right behind Richie Williams, Armanti Edwards and Jerry Moore.

RE: Charlie Cobb is the new GSU AD
Congratulations GA State, you've made a good solid hire. GA State certainly has lots of room to grow and Cobb certainly has that background with the rise of App's Athletics Dept. over the past several years. Cobb has some connections in Atlanta and this will hopefully serve you well. Cobb's wife and her family are from there so he's certainly glad to be back in the ATL (happy wife = happy home). As others have said, he's been ready to get out of Boone for a while now and he was a finalist for the Southern Miss job not too long back. Assuming we make the right hire it will be win-win for both schools. Cobb made some mistakes certainly, i.e. men's basketball, but all in all he was certainly a great hire for us. He's seemingly been getting a little long in the tooth around Boone though for the last couple years so a fresh breeze will hopefully be welcomed.

Very true, no one single entity can take credit for that historic era in App State football and the Yosef Club/Athletics Dept. windfall it spawned. I always think the Chancellor is the single biggest piece of the puzzle. We certainly couldn't have possible hoped for a better Chancellor than with what Peacock brought to the table. Truth be told we had a lot of pieces to the puzzle fall into place all at the right time to make that run possible.

I can also attest to Dr Everts. Very engaging, very bright. She had extensive on-the-job training with Dr Peacock in his lame duck period so she has an idea of the pulse. She's also an outsider who I feel knows when to step in and when to delegate.
