Here's my view if this had happened to me

Had I been hurt and in the hospital b/c of this unexpected incident and later I was told the thief was caught, yes, I would prosecute, absolutely.

In your care shere khan, looks to me you retrieve your bike and you weren't physically hurt... I think you should let it go and learn from it.

If you just wanted your bike back then you got it. Depends on it you want to move on or continue to fight. Only you can answer that.

I'd sign it. People think there are no damn consequences for their actions anymore.

If you do, perhaps he'll think twice before swiping something again. If you don't, no chance in that happening.

This. 100%. He wouldn't/didn't cut you any slack, taking your property. Sign it & let HIM deal with the consequences of HIS actions.

reallly depends on the person

you can tell when someone is trying to lie.
if he honestly was just a person who honestly did look believe-able that he was stranded..id let it go, he has already been arrested and booked im sure he's learned his lesson, no one was hurt

if he looked like someone who was just hurling lies and looked like someone who does this for living. id charge

Sign the paper, he needs to learn a lesson that should have been learned before teen years. He likely get misdemeanor theft charge which won't hurt him long term. but the lesson will help forever.
