Best secondary in the AAC?
With all of the talk about who's WR corps is better I thought we could discuss who will be defending all of these great receivers everyone seems to think they have. I would make this a poll but I don't know how to do that. So who do y'all think has the best secondary in our conference?

RE: Best secondary in the AAC?
Probably not UC. Our corners are good, but not great. The strength will be our safety duo, Mike Tyson and Zach Edwards. Both are sophomores, Edwards started last year and looked damn good, and Tyson got a some good playing time too with some flashes of superb athleticism. By the time these two graduate, I'm betting they are both draft picks.
Let me put it this way, for the first time since 2007, I'm not worried that our secondary will be a huge liability. On the contrary, as a whole unit, I dont think it will stellar either.

I think that is our strength. Our offense is lacking but out secondary is solid.
#1 UCF
#2 Houston
#3 Tulsa

i dont think they'll be much debate on this...if you want a debate.. you should make one about LB's ..outside of wr our leagues second strongest position is LB's, and everyone in our league believes they have the best

Trueski. I could go on and on about the talent, experience, and depth we have at the position this year...
BTW Pesik, did you see my post about how to see the comments on BCSNN?

Yeah that is a good idea. I will make another thread for LB's.

I don't believe Tulane has the best LB's, but I do believe we have the best secondary in the league. Doss and Monroe will be playing on Sundays, and Scofield has a chance. We were +19 last year, and as the ECU Pirates can tell you, have a D that confuses even the best QB's. This is a group that really came on strong as the season wore on, and most are Juniors.
Linebacking may be the weakness of the D, but Nico Marley is sure fun to watch. At 5'8" he was Co-Freshman of the year in C-USA last year.
2015 is the year we plan on winning the conference, but we're going to sneak up on some folks this year.

If you think the Green Wave's secondary is the best on paper, you haven't seen them play. They play as a unit. A tight knit one as well. Lionel Washington has schemes that are so confusing, and we have smart, athletic players executing them, and coming up with big plays regularly. I'd bet we either scored, or set the offense up in the attack zone 75% of the time we scored last year with the Defense. (That's also a commentary on our inability to mount long drives last year!)
I'm telling you, we're not finishing where the media poll picked us. It starts two weeks from tomorrow in Tulsa.

Things I'd like to point out:
* UCF has 75 DBs in their rotation and from 5-75 they'd all start anywhere else in the AAC or SEC.
* UCFs 9th string nickel back had 3 tackles, that's tough to top.
* The Siberian free press noted that UCF had the best secondary in the "Americas", but we can all assume they meant the American.
* There are 7 true freshman you will know about by the end of the season.

Tulane was #2 in the nation in turnovers with a +11 margin (not 19) and 35 total turnovers which in most leagues would normally be a good argument to being the best secondary in the league, except the fact that the #1 in the nation is also in this league
Houston lead the nation by a wide margin of a +25 margin and 43 total turnovers
and carden had almost 480yds passing i dont think that was a good example foor your point
I like ucf at #1 they were consistent last year, return most of them and had a good showing vs hackenberg, petty, okorn and bridgwater who were or are prjected to be lottery picks
(hope no one notices i threw okorn in there lol)
i like Tulane's secondary just prefer ucf's resume, i still think you have the best individual tho

Yes, he did have 480 yards in a triple OT game. But he threw a pick 6 that went something like 86 yards on a play that was between the hash marks.

^99 yards and it wasn't really a confusion thing it looked like he had his mind made up from the snap and the Tulane DB jumped the route.

RE: Best secondary in the AAC?
The crazy thing about UCF this year is even with our athleticism and experience, there's a potential three freshmen that could battle for the two deep from the get go.
Kyle Gibson - 4 star safety
Chris Williams - 3 star safety
Mike Rogers - 4 star CB
UCF is going to be stacked at DB for years to come.

Glad to see you remember the play too! That was one heck of a game, that got better and better as it progressed. I have a feeling ECU will remember the game when we meet in Greenville this year.
Few folks know we were closer to going to the C-USA Championship game than ECU was. Late in the 4th Q at Rice (last game of the year) we scored what would have been a winning TD, that was called back by a phantom holding call. It was an HB option no less! If the flag wasn't thrown, we play Marshall in the Championship game instead of Rice.
