Delaware schedules 5 ACC FB Games through 2020
Delaware just announced a deal to play five ACC teams through 2020 -

UNC - 2015

Wake Forest - 2016

Virginia Tech - 2017

Pitt - 2019

NC State - 2020

So either Delaware is going FBS, or the ACC will be playing FCS teams for the near future.

This is unfortunate and wrong, in my opinion.

There is P5 talk about eliminating G5 games, but FCS ones will be permitted?

What freaking sense does that make?

RE: Delaware schedules 5 ACC FB Games through 2020
In related news, NC State announced 15 future OOC games and their athletic director made it clear that they have no intentions of dropping FCS or G5 schools from future schedules.

Quote:The NC State Wolfpack will host the Marshall Thundering Herd at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on Sept. 9, 2017. The Wolfpack will then travel to face the Herd at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington on Sept. 22, 2018.

NC State and Marshall have met three times previously, all in Raleigh, and the Wolfpack won each game.

Georgia State is scheduled to visit Raleigh on Sept. 8, 2018. The contest will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

In 2019, the Ball State Cardinals of the MAC will also make the trek to Raleigh to take on the Wolfpack for the first time ever.

NC State and Old Dominion previously announced a home-and-home football series for 2014 and 2015, but today a third game was added. The Wolfpack will host the Monarchs on Sept. 17, 2016.

Under the ACC’s agreement with Notre Dame, the Wolfpack are slated to host the Irish on Oct. 8, 2016 and visit South Bend in 2017. Yow announced today that Notre Dame will return to Carter-Finley Stadium in 2022.

NC State also announced future games against eight FCS opponents: Eastern Kentucky (2015), William & Mary (2016), Furman (2017 & 2021), James Madison (2018), Western Carolina (2019 & 2024), Delaware (2020), and Charleston Southern (2022).

In the release today, Debbie Yow stated that NC State’s non-conference schedule will continue to consist of “one Power 5 conference team, two FBS opponents from among the American, C-USA, MAC, Sunbelt and WAC, and one FCS opponent.”

She is going to have a difficult time scheduling any WAC teams, lol (that's now been changed to MWC on the official release, btw).

This has been on the schedule for a while. I don't think it is unusual for FCS teams to play P5 schools. JMU, App, and W&M all do it regularly too.

P5 talk has always been about eliminating FCS. ESPN was the one who tried to make everyone believe there was talk about dumping G5 games by coming up with the poll that several coaches are now denying they voted in.

Can you elaborate on this? Is there a quote?

A few CAA teams are maybe as good as a few MAC teams, but I wouldn't go any farther than that.

So either Delaware is going FBS, or the ACC will be playing FCS teams for the near future.

Clearly, the ACC presidents and athletic directors have recognized the tremendous football potential and market power of Delaware, which is right in the middle of the fourth-largest TV market, with over 10 million people living within 100 miles of campus, and this is proof positive that Delaware will be asked to join the ACC sometime in the next five years, although they might reject the ACC in favor of an invitation from the Big Ten.

I'd like to see Delaware and Villanova join the AAC. It would add some class to that lot while restoring some Eastern cachet.

If the NCAA adopts an FBS orphan rule: when a homeless FBS team seeks refuge in a FCS conferences, then the entire conference is eligible for FBS, the CAA could very well be in line for FBS.

UMass
UNH
Albany
Stony Brook
Delaware
Towson
JMU
Liberty

JMU and Delaware wouldn't have to change leagues. UMass gets actual traditional and regional rivals. Liberty gets added out of dire need, as Villanova won't go FBS. Hofsta and Northeastern will have to leave, because the CAA won't exclusive enough for them (those two have blocked America East schools from full membership).

That is funny. The AD at NC State does not even know who the G5 conferences are. I don't know if that is more of a slam against the AD, the MWC, or the entire G5.

RE: Delaware schedules 5 ACC FB Games through 2020
If Delaware wanted to go FBS they could've at any time in the past decade really. I'm still not entirely confused the MAC would outright refuse a JMU/Delaware duo especially if they haven't abandoned their eastern expansion desires. However, Delaware has not gone FBS and all the rumblings on their message boards seem to imply their new(ish) president has little desire to move them up. So it seems doubtful that will happen.

Scheduling these games five years in advance is nothing new. Most teams in the CAA schedule regional ACC/former Big East foes years in advance.

Considering how NC State Athletics have promoted their product since Yow became their AD it's entirely possible she directly copied some other AD's press release. Since they seem to target the SEC schools with State in their name I would check Mississippi State and LSU first.

Anybody who knows anything about Debbie Yow wouldn't be surprised. Her mess at UMD is probably the sole reason Maryland felt the need to leave the ACC.

Clearly she's failed in her stated goals. In 2014 they play Georgia Southern, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, and USF. In 2015 they play ODU, Troy, EKU, and Southern Alabama. And will ODU be a full FBS member by 2016? In 2016 they play ODU, William & Mary, ECU, and Notre Dame.

And I guess she's ruling out the possibility of scheduling Army or BYU?
