Does anybody here have Apple TV?
I've grown to loathe standard cable TV and satellite both. How is Apple TV? I see that it's about $100 for the box. How do the channels work? Is there a subscription for all of them or are some included? The website isn't really all that clear to be but it seems like these come with the box w/o needing a subscription.

With these channels, I really don't need anything else, although AMC would be nice.

Watch ESPN (my understanding is you can watch any of their networks)
Netflix
Hulu Plus
NBA TV
Fox Now
A&E
History
Smithsonian

The Roku 3 is far superior and ironically runs Prime better. The Fire downloads quicker, but Roku's interface is 1000x better which ends up saving the time you waste navigating through the Fire's interface. Looking at reviews online, the Roku 3 seems to beat both Apple and Amazon despite the hardware disadvantage (the Roku also has 1000+ channels while the others don't even come close).

ps. I too sick got of cable. Trust me, purchasing a streaming player is a great decision. Subscribe to the stuff you actually use and no more; it saves a ton of $$$!

Thanks, I was just looking at a nice comparison of Roku vs Apple.

I think I'm going to go with Roku. What do the channels run for subscriptions?

Since we don’t care to have cable or satellite, we watch just about everything through Apple TV.

If you have other Apple products like an iPad, iPod, or iPhone then get the AppleTV because it all syncs seamlessly. I have an AppleTV and really like it. It contains much much more than you listed above. If you don't have Apple products then I'd go with the Roku 3. It has the most overall content.
