Pat Forde - Top 25 QB's to watch - Kiel at # 14
Just passing this along

14. Gunner Kiel, Cincinnati. Remember him? Kiel was a breathlessly hyped high school prospect who committed to Indiana, signed with LSU, wound up at Notre Dame and then transferred to Cincinnati – all before playing a down of college football. Kiel comes from Southern Indiana, which is not exactly Florida in terms of a prospect breeding ground, so there are skeptics still waiting to see if he’s the real deal. That wait will extend until at least Sept. 12, since the Bearcats have open dates the first two Saturdays of the season. (The American Athletic Conference at work, ladies and gentlemen.)

I thought that was just a poor job on our part (Whit) and nothing to do with the AAC. Struck me as odd/lazy from Forde.

UC asked the AAC to help out what Whit screwed up by scheduling a conference game the first week of the season.

They said they could not.

Hence the comment.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of hearing about Gunner's hype and lack of playing in the NCAA. I want nothing more than for the season to start and Gunner ends the "hype" with strong performances and results on the field which I believe he will achieve IMO. In Kiel we trust!

I wouldn't exactly say Whit "screwed up" the schedule. He traded a FCS home game with Miami (FL) next year in a newly renovated Nippert Stadium. Is the situation to start the 2014 season less than ideal? Sure. But I sure as hell am excited to see UC play the Canes in front of 40,000+ fans in a sparkling new stadium in 2015.

You may want to pay attention to Tubby's responses when he is discussing this years schedule. He really does not like it at all and it is very obvious where he places the blame.

Oh it's obvious Tuberville isn't happy but it doesn't necessarily mean I agree with his sentiment.

Starting two weeks after everyone else and having no off weeks during the season is not good scheduling no matter who you play. And it all falls on Whit screwing with the schedule. If you want to eliminate a lesser team on the schedule and replace it with a better team, you better be damn sure you have a viable option before you cancel the first game. Whit did not. He screwed up.

That's your opinion and a well thought out one. I just have the opposite opinion.

FWIW, UC started the 2012 season a week later than everyone else, had 0 bye weeks after September 22nd, and still won 10 games and a Big East Championship. It wasn't ideal but certainly not some insurmountable problem.
