OT: DirectTV users, how much do you pay monthly?
What package do you have, how many receivers/rooms etc, and what is your monthly bill? Thinking about getting it this week, I've never had Direct TV before. Comcast and Uverse are not serviceable in my area....

RE: OT: DirectTV users, how much do you pay monthly?
I had the plus package. I signed up at Best Buy because the rates they were offering at the time were awesome. They told me that is what I'd pay for the full two years, but they lied. I paid $55/mo for the first year for a whole home dvr and two other receivers. After the first year, that jumped to $91.

I actually canceled my account last Friday and just paid the penalty for the last 4 months of the contract. Was tired of paying $90+/mo for tv service that would go out any time there was moderate rainfall. If they tell you your signal won't go out when it rains, they're lying to you.

I lived for two years in DC without cable/satellite and I didn't miss it, so I'll live without it just fine again.

Picture quality was great though. Definitely better than I got with cable, but not as good as over the air.

I have the Premier package with DVR and two additional receivers. Currently costs $124 but is set to go to around $180 next month if I don't drop the movie or sports packages.

RE: OT: DirectTV users, how much do you pay monthly?
The package I have is no longer available. If I drop to a lower package I lose CBS Sports, and if I move up I get like 5 more channels that I'll never watch and my bill will go up $6 a month. I will keep my package forever. I also have two HD DVRs. I've been a customer for nearly 5 years and my bill with fees and taxes was $110. I called last week to inquire about Showtime and HBO, and I also wanted to know when my contract expired. When I asked that they sent me to a specialist by the time I got off the phone they had given me a $10 bill credit for being a loyal customer and they have an option to pay your bill through email and you get a $5 credit. And they gave me Showtime for 4 months for free and my bill is now $93.

Love Direct TV, I have the 2nd highest package you can get, forgot the name but it just under ultimate package(maybe premier)..They have a rep who calls me a lot and offers me differnet deal for so many months, right now its the ultimate package which includes Sprout which my kids love, you just have remember to cancel after 3 months so you are not fully charged for this free package offer they give you....When you call, its fast, you are not on hold forever, they do a good job of answering the phones and moving along quickly, so these free offers are really good as long as you mark the last possible day on your calendar when to call and cancel so you are not charged for these freebies....

.I have basic DVR not Genie and two total receivers...I pay $105 a month in year 2 of contract, first year bill was around $70 a month...May try to see if I can get some discounts once my 2nd year of contract ends this month.....Also like how they have extra channels for big golf and tennis tournaments as well....

Will add the sports package if Western is playing on any regional Sport Channels, so I guess my bill will eventually go up to $130 or more after my 2 year contract runs out this week....

Had to Cut Sunday Ticket this season after 2 years, but hopefully can pick it up at some point..If you like the NFL it was a must have..

If you are big into fantasy football, Direct TV has a fantasy football show that will run during the live NFL games on Sundays 1 to 8, so that is a cool added feature..

In my experience, Direct TV was way better than cable in so many ways......Now though I may have to see if I can get some discounts or something because with 2 small kids in daycare, $130 a month is pretty expensive for TV....Or say I am going to cancel and see what they can do..

It does go out if it storms, but if its just heavy rain you are good to go usually....Has not been too many times where its been bad or out for a while...hell my cable before was out longer than I have had Direct TV out the last 2 years...

I have direct TV through Costco and paid for by a Costco credit card.
for the first year I was at around 95.00 with everything (except NFL ticket) all four premium movie channels, etc. Oh and they gave me a 200.00 costco card which I used to buy a little 32 inch tv. It came with a whole house DVR (a Genie) and three other high definition boxes.
After the first year it went up $12.00. Paying for it with my Costco Amex saves 10 bucks a month.
my contract expires on St Patricks day next year.

right now, I feel like my costco gives a similar deal to new subscribers along with the Sunday ticket free.

I have had nothing but good luck with Direct TV.

If his team is local he doesn't need NFL Ticket and can just use NFL Network's Redzone at a far cheaper price on Dish.

I have the Choice Extra and no extra packages or channels like HBO or Skinamax. Usually pay around $100.00 of we order a kids movie or two per month. That's with 5 TV's in the house.

I think our bill is @ $100 a month. We have rental property and use the referral system to lower our bill. We've never had a problem trying to find a game we wanted to watch so I guess we have about all the necessary channels. CBSSN used to be a really high numbered channel. Now, it pops up right alongside the rest of the sports channels when using the guide. HTH!

I switched from DTV (Subscriber for over 15 years,) to Dish, unless you want the NFL ticket, I would recommend Dish.

I got rid of everything, bought an antenna from Amazon to get local channels and got Netflix. Saving about 80-100 a month and barely miss it.

RE: OT: DirectTV users, how much do you pay monthly?
Well, I ended up getting the ULTIMATE package (it's pretty much right below the absolute top of the line package) and because I'm a new customer, I get HBO/Showtime/Cinemax free for 3 months (w/ the option of cancelling it after the 3rd month) and I get NFL Sunday Ticket Max FREE for the whole 2014 season...and if I don't want to be charged for the NFL Sunday Ticket MAX for the 2015 season I have to cancel it by the end of April next year. This package includes almost every sports channel (all in HD as well):

ESPN (HD)
ESPN2 (HD)
ESPNNEWS (HD)
ESPNU (HD)
BYU-TV
BIG10 NETWORK (HD)
MLB Network (HD)
SportstimeOhio (HD) (anyone familiar w/ this channel? Never heard of it??)
CBSSports (HD)
Fox Sports 1 (HD)
Fox Sports 2 (HD)
NBA-TV (HD)
NBCSports (HD)
NFL Network (HD)
NFL Sunday Ticket MAX (HD)
NHL Network (HD)
FS South/FoxSports South (HD)
FS Southwest/FoxSports Southwest (HD)
SportSouth (HD)

Because I'm a new customer I got all sorts of discounts...and as long as I cancel my HBO/Cinemax/Showtime BEFORE the 4th month and as long as I cancel the NFL Sunday Ticket MAX 2015 season on or BEFORE May 2015....my bill will only be 78.81 + tax for the first year....then it goes to 118.81+ tax for the remaining 12 months. That's not top shabby if you ask me...I got a crap ton of other channels too (TNT/TBS/Reelz/USANetwork/PBS/ComedyCentral/Cartoon NEtwork/A&E/History/H2/Discovery/Science/CNN/FoxNews/NatGeo/Spike/TruTV/FX/FX Movie Channel, FXX etc., and I get lots of Encore movie channels, and all my local channels ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox.

My wife is gonna hate me this fall but I got two Genie HD-DVR's in two rooms so maybe not haha.

Still think you should've picked Dish

I love Direct TV, but just let me say enjoy this year! Just like everything else (Sirius XM, etc.), its great being a first time new customer, but once that first year is over your pricing will skyrocket...Really wish some of these companies would offer something to you after your first year, most just make you feel like a sucker once you got all the perks at the beginning and than they drop you like just as quick....

I called Direct TV this week after my 2 year contract is up and asked for some discounts for being loyal customer and threatening to cancel due to the price skyrocketing, they did not budge an inch..Others I have read acted like its easy as pie if you threaten to cancel, but not for me...I am going to call back next month and may go ahead and cancel just due to the price going up about $80 a month from the first year with half of the programming....

I've had DirecTV off and on since the 90's. But I'm ready to get rid of it and any comparable package for good once I can convince my kids (and wife) that they can watch anything they want via their various devices. I watch more TV shows on my computer than my TV.

At least my big TV went out and I've been able to convince them to watch it on an older 20 inch TV and not get a new TV, so that's a minor win for me at least.

Wanna switch to Dish? I can help ya get $50 off first bill AND they are offering mulitsport pack for free to all new customers for (3 or 6) months. You'll also gain WatchESPN access and ESPN3 access.

Once you get out from under the service contract you have some leverage. The specialist you talked to was in the customer retention department. I talk to them every 3 months. My bill is $74 a month and I get free premium packages. If you call and say you want to cancel they will really work with you. I really nly watch 5 maybe 6 channels that are not sports related. Going to try and get the NFL package and ESPN game plan at a reduced rate this year.
