So much for the, "But we play in the SEC. We don't need strong ooc games." Alabama is #61. All depends on who you get from the other division. And Alabama has been getting the easy cross-division games for several years now. LSU and Florida have tended to get pretty tough ones (in addition to each other).

Alabama at 61 because Bama don't have to play Bama.

Pre-season SOS numbers are as meaningful as pre-season anything else except for injury reports: Meaningless. 07-coffee3

I don't think that there would be much dissent that ND has a pretty tough 2014 schedule.

RE: Intersting 2014 Strenghth of Schedule Rankings
one point to make-
#61 Alabama would add a game with #9 South Carolina in the SEC title game
#46 Florida St would add a game with #23 UNC in the ACC title game
#36 Ohio St would add a game with #14 Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game

Alabama would not wind up #61 SOS. Not with an extra top 10 game to the schedule... Also- Alabama in a lot of ways will be hinging a lot on how good Tennessee, Florida, and even to a lesser degree Southern Miss bounce back this year.

To be fair, FSU doesn't have to play FSU, which hurts their inconference SOS.

A shot. But, I think that 10-2 is more likely, maybe 9-3.

I think ND will have a much better team than last year but the schedule is a tough one.

A30 RICE 3:30pm ET NBC
S06 MICHIGAN 7:30pm NBC
S13 vs. Purdue (LucasOil) 7:30pm NBC
S27 @ Syracuse (Meadowlands)
O04 STANFORD 3:30pm ET NBC
O11 NORTH CAROLINA 3:30pm ET NBC
O18 @ Florida State
N01 @ Navy (Landover, MD) 8pm ET CBS
N08 @ Arizona State
N15 NORTHWESTERN 3:30pm ET NBC
N22 LOUISVILLE 3:30pm ET NBC
N29 @ Southern Cal

ND plays 10 P5 teams in 2014, before all of this "autonomy" stuff kicks in. No FCS teams. ND has never once played an FCS school.

The two non-P5 teams this year? Rice (10 wins last year) and Navy (9 wins last year).

Because teams change from year to year, using last year's records to determine strength of schedule has issues but is still better than using preseason rankings like the SOS numbers you quoted.

The SEC will always (and the Pac12 this year) show high SOS using this preseason ranking method because going into the season their schools are highly ranked. Then, some of their teams turn into 2013 Florida or 2012 Auburn and the schedules in that conference aren't as tough for some teams as expected.

Rutgers is #9 in SOS of schedule using last year's records and #19 here based on preseason ranking. I tend to agree with the former based on RU playing 10 of their 12 games against teams that had winning records last year.

It will be extremely surprising if ND's schedule doesn't turn out to be one of the toughest in the country. But generally speaking, pre-season SOS ratings mean nothing.

you bring up 2013 Florida but ignore 2013 Missouri or 2013 Auburn. Or 2012 Auburn and ignore 2012 Texas A&M.

I never predict individual games for any school playing any school.

Ask Michigan fans if they thought that they would lose to Appy State.
