My dream season....8-4 with an upset over then nationally ranked Marshall, that ends their undefeated dreams and plummets them out of the national rankings, even out of "those receiving votes"

Kinda in the neighborhood of us beating UVA in basketball and baseball the last couple of years.

Not saying you shouldn't want to win, but why would you wish for a conference member to "plummet from the rankings"?

The social viruses at VCU used to have a moderator named "xjohnx", who liked to troll around preaching at posters from other schools.

Who said that? You should be hoping for 12-0, I just don't get rooting for bad things to happen to a conference mate once you've beaten them.

Old Dominion's post was made in response to a Marshall poster who stated that our mere presence in the CUSA was a drag on his team's s.o.s. In the context, the reply was perfectly appropriate.

Look, I just don't get the mentality of rooting for bad things to happen to conference mates and I'm not even a real big rah rah conference guy. I didn't, nor will I, suggest that ODU beating Marshall would be bad for the conference, we all have to look out for our own team first and foremost. You won't catch me rooting against any conference member for the sake of the conference, if we can't beat Marshall and they have a legit shot at 13-0 I hope they achieve it, but if you guys knock off the Herd, I'd gladly congratulate you, that would be a huge win for you and a real statement about you guys being a player in this conference.

What I don't get is letting a couple of obvious trolls telling you your team is going to suck rankle you to the point that you say you hope that you beat them and they "plummet from the rankings". You've already beaten them, it does the conference no good and it actually disrespects ODU. What makes ODU look better beating a ranked team and them "plummeting from the rankings" or beating a ranked team and them falling 5-10 spots?

If we rooted against every school with obvious trolls we couldn't root for anyone, including our own teams.

Don't get letting an obvious troll with a post count in the dozens drag you into a flame war.

I didn't say ignore them, I said don't get dragged into a flame war. Call them out for being a troll and don't hold their comments against their team and remainder of their fan base.

Well you got one thing right, if you beat Marshall. We would surely plummet out of the rankings, thats a certainty. Phil Steele would probably close his magazine business as well. And usa today would shut down their sports department.

In all honesty and joking aside. I am just messing with the ODU faithful and having a good time. I dont really mean anything that i said in any of the posts prior in this thread, other than i expect a 4-8 season due to depth and defensive issues, but i hope you go 11-1.

I am glad to have you in the conference and your support from your community and dknors is first class. In a few years, you will be as deep as eveyone else and competing for the east division. I took it a little too far and i apologize, but did you at least get a chuckle our of the "rhode island is the cupcake and odu is the sprinkles" comment? ? i would laugh my butt off if someone said that about us in good fun.

Looking forward to the game. Was going to make the trip but due to some other obligations we couldnt make it down. You will find that our fanbase is one of the best and classiest you will ever meet and we take pride in that. I apologize for agging that on for pages, i couldn't do it anymore lol

In sad news - the ONE game of the season I will have to miss due to prior commitment.....Marshall.

So disappointed. That was the home game of the season IMO.
