Exclamation Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
I would like to give a huge compliment to the way that uabsports.com has expanded its coverage. They are doing more with the website and hopefully they will keep expanding.
They are writing stories right now but they're also doing practice reports, videos, etc. I think if we can get more people conditioned to going to the site then it's more likely they will expand so please give it a lot of hits.
I really think uabsports.com can not only become a good resource for UAB news but it is already a damn site better than what Solomon Crenshaw is providing. His coverage is a joke and the al.com folks sent a loud and clear message what they think about UAB.

I still think we need to keep trying with al.com and give them hits but let’s also give uabsports.com some love and let them know that we really appreciate the expanded coverage. They have stepped up to the plate.

Just my opinion. 04-cheers

They are doing a good job, but it is not media coverage, it's PR. They are not going to give you balanced coverage and will present only in the best light. It's what they are supposed to do.

We still need al.com or someone to step up and give objective reporting.

RE: Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
I agree. My point was to help generate traffic to them to enourage them to do more. I also want to keep up the pressure on al.com to force better media coverage. I am hoping this will stay a positive thead.

I suspect that once Clark gets things going that those at al.com will hop on the bandwagon.

The info videos from Clark have been great. Maybe it is a uabsports.com new thing or maybe it is a Clark thing.

Whatever the case, still good stuff.

They are giving us information we are not getting from al.com and quite frankly al.com is getting a lot of their info from the videos. I am loving the coverage and hope they ramp it up.

RE: Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
What is happening at UABSports is worthy of notice and appreciation. We've griped about the SI office often enough, so my hat's off to whoever it is over there that is getting it done. Good job. Hope you get some official recognition for your good work.

That said, it also shines a light on just how pitiful our print coverage has become. I don't know whether it is lessened emphasis from AL.com management or if Crenshaw is just writing lazy copy when he gets around to it. He certainly suffers in comparison to the beat reporters preceding him.

Seems like AL.com would at least give the UAB beat to a recent college grad who just wants to get a start in the industry.

RE: Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
I feel like Crenshaw has done a better job recently. The dog days are over, and there is much more to talk about.

Steve Irvine's content on the official site sure reads like journalism to me. I have been really impressed with the official site lately as well. Especially all the videos.

RE: Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
I think Crenshaw's main problem is this new generation of journalism(and his being more "old school"). Today's journalists are more media specialists. The emphasis is on short articles that can be churned out quickly and at a moment's notice and without a lot of thought if only to generate page hits. That's kinda what the newspaper industry has become. In the past journalists were given time to develop a story that might run a couple of days later(much as Irvine is able to do with UABSports.com). As much as we all liked Champlin, he offered little in the way of detailed reporting but made up for it in quantity. But, again, that is the era we are in and one Champlin is much more comfortable with than Crenshaw. Of course, being spread out with multiple obligations does Crenshaw no favors.

RE: Shoutout to UABSPORTS.COM
Thanks to Crenshaw I know practice times and when the first scrimmage is. I don't get that from uabsports.com.
And, I'm pretty sure we had lots of videos for fall camp last year too.

No doubt, he has done better here lately. I missed the scrimmage part though......seems like I saw Tuesday somewhere. Is that correct?

yep

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/...cart_river

Quote:There are some players who have started the past three years who "probably have got a leg up," the coach said, adding that the first scrimmage at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, will likely solidify the pecking order. That scrimmage will likely be closed to media and the public.

Scrimmage starts the same time as the first game does. Talk about attention to details.

Al.com will hop on the bandwagon when:

1. UAB starts winning
2. UAB fanbase starts to effects B'ham News positively from a subscription perspective or hit count to the al.com website.
