Really?!

I'm not watching the video because I don't like gross stuff, and the articles I read are ambiguous as to whether it was intentional so yes, really... Does it 'look' intentional?

Chappy: all indications are that it was not- intentional.

Stewart seemed extremely shook-up and traumatized. I don't think he had any idea that Ward was standing there until it was too late.

I'm hopeful that it wasn't intentional but for shook up and intentional - he's racing again today?

Watched the video. What the heck was that kid thinking walking out on to the track like that?

Local news said manslaughter charges are pending

Not a racing fan, but see that so often in highlights. Drivers getting out of their car and stepping in front of the driver they're confronting. I wouldn't do this in a parking lot and these guys do it on a dirt road with cars going over 100mph.

The honest, utilitarian, cold-blooded reality is that a lot of money at stake here. And not just for Stewart. He has obligations to his crew, his sponsors, etc.

Not saying that's a good reason, but NASCAR is obviously a huge business and the show will go on.

Good question that can never be answered. I think it helps to remember that NASCAR drivers are not a random sample of the population. They have a wide streak of recklessness and thrill-seeking. Things that seem insanely dangerous to "normal" people are just part of a day's work to them.

I saw the video on ESPN, and you really can't tell what happened because just before he's hit, the camera pans upward. All you see after that is arms flailing. Then the camera pans downward to see the kid laid out. Now anybody with any sense knows that kid got hit, but you never see him get hit.

Horrible situation, dark back stretch and wearing a dark fire suit all while walking in front of cars that do not have transmissions while they are trying to slow down for the caution was an awful mistake that costed this young man his life. If you notice in the video the car in front of Tony nearly took him out as well.

Kevin just got out of his car onto a moving track. That was foolish...still sad.

That must be the edited for TV version. The one I watched on YouTube shows the impact.

Found this quote from another driver online...

" Graves said that he did not believe it was intentional. "You never mean to do something like that," Graves said. "Kevin was pissed and he let Tony know. And Tony was trying to give the message back that he wasn't happy either. He went over the line with it."

Just very sad...

If you've been to a lot of dirt short track races, you've seen that situation played over and over. You see it every week at some tracks, especially in lower divisions.......a driver takes another driver out of the race through purely normal driving and the other driver gets out his car, points fingers, waves arms, etc in anger or frustration. The first driver then revs the motor as he passes by as if to also send a message.

Obviously, there was no harm meant by Tony, but the results were tragic.
