That certainly seems a good rule to follow unless competing for the Darwin Award.

Looking at the video I agree...however, a civil suit surely is coming. The young man made an unfortunate decision and paid the price. I do think Stewart was partially to blame in not trying harder to avoid hitting him.

He may never have saw him. The driver in front of Stewart seems to avoid Ward at the last second, and it may have been too late for Stewart to do the same.

That's what it is looks like to me. Of course the message board know it alls will brand Stewart a killer. Looks like Ward made a stupid decision and paid for it. You never get out of your car on a track when others are going by.

And who branded him a killer in this thread?

Guy wearing black running down in front of moving race cars at night. Bad decision has to be the blame here. Having met Tony Stewart, I'm sure He didn't want this incident to happen. Nor would Anyone else.

Quote:Just 16 hours after the tragic on-track incident that killed 20-year-old driver Kevin Ward Jr, Ontario County sheriff Phil Povero said there were no plans to charge Tony Stewart with anything after his role in the incident at Canandaigua (NY) Motorsports Park.

Povero said he did not see any evidence of criminal activity on Stewart’s part. Stewart and Ward has gotten together on the track, leading to Ward hitting the wall and cutting a tire. Ward got out of his car while the field was under caution, waited for Stewart’s car to pass by under caution and began walking demonstratively toward it. That’s when Ward appeared to get caught under the right rear tire of Stewart’s Sprint Car and was thrown to the track. Ward was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Found out today the Deceased driver was from Port Leyden, Ny. in Lewis co. He Graduated from South Lewis Co H.S. in 2012. Same H.S. My Wife attended years before. Sad it happened.

Strange. After talking with My Brother in law in Turin, Ny., Kevin Ward jr may have been the Great Nephew of My Wife's Cousin whom had recently passed away. Small world We live in.
Can't verify if related. Would have been by marriage. She was a Ward from the Same area.

This entire situation is sad, for everyone involved.

I can't fault Steward. In fact, I feel terrible for him. I imagine that he will never be the same after this. However, I feel sorry for the driver who got hit, and I feel awful for his family. Hopefully racing will crack down on drivers who leave their cars in the future.

Quote:NASCAR Insiders Rusty Wallace and Darrell Waltrip have informed the Associated Press that three-time Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart will hold a press conference in the coming days, and is expected to announce his retirement from all auto racing activities, as well as announcing the sale of his half of his ownership of Stewart-Haas Racing. The announcement comes after Stewart tragically struck and killed fellow sprint car driver Kevin Ward, Jr.

“This was a tragic accident, one he just can’t get over. I talked with Tony yesterday and he made it clear, he is done with racing. I tried to suggest to him to take time off and think it over for a few months, he told me he has made up his mind and will announce soon. I hope he changes his mind, but it sure sounded like he meant it,” said former NASCAR champion and Hall of Fame member Rusty Wallace.

Quote:According to Waltrip, he talked to Stewart for hours the night after the accident and again two days ago, and he says Stewart has been grieving more and more after the initiative shock.

“The man hasn’t slept for days, this has rocked his world harder than anything he has ever had to deal with. He told me he could never effectively get back in a race car and drive. He can barely bring himself to drive his Ford Taurus to the supermarket and back without cringing. I expect an announcement in the next few days, he is just working on what he is going to say to the fans and most importantly the father of the victim, Kevin Ward, Sr.,” Waltrip told NASCAR reporter Nicole Briscoe via telephone interview last night.

Quote:On whether Stewart will retire from racing, all signs point to yes given the sources. “There will for sure be a press conference in which Tony speaks for himself, I think he sees no other way around this,” said Waltrip. “It will indeed be a sad day for NASCAR.”

Stewart-Haas Racing has not commented on the rumor, and a representative for the team could neither confirm nor deny Stewart’s intentions.

Empire News is a satirical and entertainment website. We only use invented names in all our stories, except in cases when public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.

Wow.

Well, I'm not the only one it got because I went to that article from a snippet on another website.

Ha ha, that's okay. I first read your quotes in the post as my jaw was hitting the floor. Then when I went to hit the link I saw Empire and said wait a minute.... I've encountered them before.

Wow... This is a f*cked up issue to base a satire piece on. Usually I find them amusing, but this is out of line.

The update is that we all thought there would be no charges and the case would be dropped but the case will go before a grand jury. We will know if there are any charges later on this week.

Tony Stewart won't be charged in Kevin Ward death at Upstate NY dirt race

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- NASCAR driver Tony Stewart will not be charged for his role in the on-track death of 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. in August, Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo announced.

Tantillo announced at a press conference that Ward had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

If you don't go in the ocean you won't be eaten by a shark, if you don't walk out onto a race track during a race, you won't get run over on the track.
