Welcome Back Dinner 2014
Tomorrow is the big day!
One of the days that I really look forward to every year. This will be my 4th year hosting and the more I talked to the players that come to my house and football alumni, I think it really is fun for them.
The highlight on the menu for me this year is Baby Back ribs on my smoker, yum!
Got the call with my list of players this afternoon and it has me looking forward to it. Mildly disappointed that I didn't get one of the players that I requested, that was at my house last year, but I have no idea how that process works. Still looking forward to it though!

RE: Welcome Home Dinner 2014
You are correct that the players truly do enjoy it. Was talking to Bob Solderitch and he shared that he still remembers every host he had when he was playing, and who was with him each year. This is a highlight of preseason camp, and players talk about it all year, including when they are hosting recruits.
One of my favorites was Billy Parker, who looked askance when he saw the steamed clams we had as one of the appetizers. He'd never had one before. After much pushing he tried one, and then proceeded to eat about four dozen.
One pound ribeyes have always been our primary entrée. Callen Larus holds our record eating three of them his redshirt freshman year. That was in addition to scallops, Italian sausage, salad, baked potato and a brownie sundae.

It is fun to host an freshman and they are very nervous and usually only give yes and no answeres, bit each year they are more at ease and their senior year they are initiateing co.conversations
My parents hosted players back in the early 80s and the night of The Laycock Center dedication I saw one of former players who my parents had hosted for 4 years and when I introduced myself his face lit up and spoke fondly of event and how much he and the other guys enjoyed the dinner. I am glad to carry on the tradition.

I've definitely seen the opening up of younger players. One of the players that we hosted our first year was a 1st year student. We now will be having him for his 4th year in a row and last year he really started to get comfortable, so this year (and hopefully next) should be a lot of fun for him. With two players new to our house this year, and both relatively young, will be good to have one that is comfortable.
Every time we stop to see the guys we host after games, they are excited to see us and take time to chat for a minute or two - even with their families waiting to see them.

Have been doing this for eight years and it never grows old. The boys are great and every time
They all remember every home they've been to...

Please, be advised that I am more than willing to join you in coming years should you need some fellowship. You know I love me some steak, scallops, and desserts. I'm here for you.

RE: Welcome Back Dinner 2014
Has there been any informal discussion at these "Dinners" regarding the competition for starting QB??

Another example of a little thing William & Mary does that not everyone else does to enhance the players experiences while in school .

I didn't talk QBs specifically - at least partially because of the players I have.
That being said, I've always taken the stance (that Sandy seems to imply as well) that anything I hear at these dinners, unless obviously publicly knowledge, shouldn't be posted here.
