FWIW, I wasn't in my car for 5 minutes when I heard the morning guys on the Score say were stunned by that comment. Sarcastically, they said it was "nice" that the Orange Bowl and the Heisman have been opened up to DII and DIII.

bad mistake, but it is not Jim Miller's job to really know what colleges are in what divisions. his job is to report on pro football. i'm just not getting my panties in a bunch knowing this aspect. life goes on.

I understand your point of view, but what he said was disrespectful to NIU. He apologized, yes, but people are allowed to be upset about it.. You're right that his job is to report PRO football, but when you say something as a paid commentator, then you better be right - thousands of people are listening to you. It showed that he was uneducated on the matter, and that he didn't do his homework. Unprofessional.

Yea, why would you even mention that NIU is in a lower division, obviously he had no idea what the hell he was talking about. A mistake is one thing, but this one is pretty egregious. And I'm a Jim Miller fan. He was a good Bears QB and I've always been okay with his Bears comments.

Great, this undoes all the enjoyment I got out of watching Lynch the last few years.

Life does go on -- but so does incompetence. It comes down to doing one's job correctly. Either you know what colleges are in what divisions, you research the ones you're going to talk about, or you stay away from the topic. Yes, life goes on, but why how many chances do you give someone to embarass your company by insulting a significant number of your consumers?

Sorry, it was mocking hyperbole/sarcasm. That doesn't always come across easily with the written word.

But my point is that people really shouldn't care that much if Jim Miller, a guy nobody cares about that much, doesn't know much about NIU and made a goof.

When he makes another mistake about a bottom of the roster guy from a school that isn't NIU, I won't be all "Oh no, poor Morehead State! How insulting!"

In my eyes there is a difference between 'professionalism and an inadvertent error such as this. I agree, if it does come up, make sure you are correct. But, i doubt that there is a significant enough Bears fan base that was insulted by this to even make a dent.

Granted he is paid to know better but I find it surprising that any college football fan doesn't know that divisions three and two play actual national chairmanship tournaments. The big boys could take a lesson from that.

Let me explain.

Division I; Division IA; FBS; FCS; FC I don't know what; FC I don't care. .

I don't care about all the divisions. They did change the names you know. That is what I was referring to-- i.e., did they change the name. I don;t get paid to keep up with name changes. I rely on those that do.

But the thing is, I don't get paid to know. I guarantee you if it was my job, I would know. So, I don't see that it's ironic. But there you go. Hope that helps. (I am also aware the other divisions have a playoff.)
