If the schedule would allow (and it may not given the myriad of events relating to Homecoming and class reunions), I have an idea to suggest that would be fun - why not spend some of the time together at a Rice sporting event (outside of football - everyone will be going anyway) supporting the athletes?

I checked the schedule and it lists W volleyball as having a game on Friday and Sunday and M basketball playing on Saturday. Everyone can still get together for socialization (e.g., tailgate before the game, dinner or drinks before or after, etc.) but part of the time would be spent attending a game. Based on previous forum posts, it sounds as if attendance is down at some sports, so what a great way to boost the number of fans (even if it is just for 1 game) while socializing. It would also be a chance for so many to "put their money where their mouth is" by going to a sporting event that they may otherwise not attend (i.e., due to personal schedule, geography, etc.). It would send a powerful message for many members of the Rice Parliament to be in attendance at an athletic event.

Just a thought ...

I would vote for the Saturday basketball game (which happens to be the season-opener), provided it does not conflict with the football tailgates. Sunday does not work for many of us as that afternoon will be the annual baseball banquet at Reckling....and Friday evening many have Homecoming activities.

Given the likely 6:00pm start to the Homecoming football game, I'm presuming the basketball game will likely be a noonish start. We could arrange a pre-game Parliament brunch somewhere in the village beforehand. We owe it to Coach Rhoades and the basketball team to give them a show of support for the home opener.

Parliament Dinner During Homecoming Week?
Is it too early to start planning for a Parliament dinner during Homecoming Week? Given Friday and Saturday evenings are reserved for reunion events and that Sunday eve (November 9) will be the annual baseball banquet at Reckling, Thursday evening, November 6th, might be our best bet.

Also, for the many out-of-towners coming in who will likely be staying near campus, are there any quality restaurants in The Village for the get-together?

Do it at Damian's again. They have a very suitable room, it's not far from campus (midtown), and give the business to Frankie.

The football game is going to kickoff at either 11:00 am or 2:30 pm, depending upon the as-yet-undecided TV coverage. So I'm pretty sure the MBB opener vs. Letourneau (exhibition) is Saturday evening...6:00 or so I think.

Great news on the success of this year's HRW initiative. Thanks to all who came out and made a small contribution to a very large cause. Thanks also Kirk for the idea and Frankie B for his generous hospitality. 04-cheers
