The main thing would be for Memphis football to get into Bowl games as AAA suggested.....starting this year.
If its two B12 slots where are we compared to Cincy, UConn, UCF, USF, Tulane, SMU & Houston?
Good question. Here are a few facts. They are sobering.
Cincy - 85 Million dollar on campus stadium improvement project underway. Medical school. 1 BILLION dollar endowment.
Houston - New On campus stadium 2014. 662 million endowment.
Memphis - Liberty Bowl 1965 2 miles off campus 10-15 million in improvements 2012. 184 million endowment.
SMU - On campus Stadium built 2000. 1.25 billion endowment.
Tulane. New on campus Stadium 2014. Medical school. 1 BILLION dollar endowment.
UCF - New Stadium 2007. Medical school. 2nd largest undergraduate enrollment in the country. 135 million endowment.
UCONN - Stadium 2003 24 miles from campus. Medical School. 357 million endowment.
USF - Shares pro stadium with Tampa Bay 10 miles from campus. Medical school. 413 million endowment.

So we're not well endowed? At least ours is bigger than UCF's.

Now, add recent history of on-field performance to the list and where does that leave our university? Unfortunately, IMO it leaves us well down the list. Not at the bottom maybe but not in the top two.
And there is the location consideration too (one of our strong points). If the B12 really will give preference to schools that fit with UWV, that should help Cincy, ECU who I failed to include in the list, & possibly our university or UConn. But I believe revenue analysis will move UCF & USF (as partners) to the top since the B12 has no FL exposure which is desired for TV & also from a recruiting standpoint.

I think Cincy would likely be in one of those 2 slots.
What would additional Texas schools add to the mix? I'm not sure anything as you already have Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU. Having TCU knocks SMU out IMO.
What does UCONN add to the Big 12? Nothing IMO.
Not that this entire debate is currently a likely scenario, but the scenario would likely would pit Memphis duking it out versus Tulane, UCF and USF for the 2nd slot. I would like our chances versus Tulane if we can continue to show improvement in on field success. That leaves UCF and USF as the primary competition for a Big 12 slot expansion in the scenario listed. Doesn't matter which one as they would not take both.
So, overall we are talking about 2 slots for Memphis, Cincy and either USF or UCF. That does not seem AS daunting. Daunting nonetheless, but not AS daunting in this scenario.

Could we get rid of this stupid thread? Has the person starting and/or those contributing to this thread met Tom Bowen?

I've met him and he's a great guy. On the ball with everything. The staff he has under him is top notch. He's finally got rid of all the old cronies. The bottom line is there is only so much he can do about football. It's really up to the head coach. Which is what I've been trying to say for 30 years.
