NIU to wear corn jerseys in their opener
Quote:Eat your heart out, Iowa-Nebraska. Ya snooze, ya lose, rejected 2011 CyHawk trophy. Some programs aren't afraid to mix a little corn into their football.

Programs like, apparently, Northern Illinois . The Huskies announced Thursday that in conjunction with DeKalb's annual CornFest -- this year, held the same weekend as NIU's season opener against FCS Presbyterian -- they would wear special corn-themed jerseys to be auctioned off for charity after the game.

I prefer "The Factory" and gray turf. 03-lmfao

P.S. Do many of these 'unusual' jerseys really sell at auction?

Why not, their stadium is next to a corn field.

DeKalb corn is a leading corn seed and feed brand that until purchased by Monsanto was headquartered in DeKalb.

Also, Joseph Glidden who was one of the city fathers responsible for the DeKalb being granted a state university was the inventor of barbed wire.

The uniforms incorporate both corn and barbed wire in their design.

I remember my first Kappa Kappa Psi convention was at NIU and they called it "Convention in the Corn". It was a good one.

I don't know... Why don't you ask one of our 19 recruits?

Ugly? Have you taken a look at that new turf on your field? NIU will wear these jersey's for one game....you all are stuck with that grey turf for quite some time.

You root for a team with a block E logo that plays on a gray turf.

This guy just has a passionate hate for NIU, which I could care less. Enjoy playing on your parking lot.

At least grey is one of their colors. NIUs jerseys incorporate a color that has nothing to do with the school. You can poke fun at EMU all you want but yellow pads? That's going to be viewed as corny by lots of people.

Do you even know why NIU is wearing these jerseys?

And since when is grey one of EMU's colors? Last I checked their colors are Green and White, NOT grey.

RE: NIU to wear corn jerseys in their opener
As a fan of a team that came up with one of the ugliest helmets ever for a bowl game, I have to say--these are some really ugly jerseys. Maybe there is enough local meaning to overlook that for those involved, but for those not involved, ugly is ugly. Probably seemed like a good idea in theory...
